I've been using LED bulbs in the TC, but as they are big buggers you cant get the dust cap back on

So i purchsed some compact LED bulbs, and popped them in today

not convinced if they have the same brighness, although they claim to be 70W as opposed to the 65W of the bigger unit

what i have noticed though is that the inner face of the headlight has streaks on it where condensation has heated up and run down the inside

i was thinking of thin spar with an alcohol soaked rag to go over the inside of the glass

I'll stay clear of the reflector as it only has microns of plating on it

THe other way was the aftermatket LED lamp unit complete, but i dont know what there like, apart from fugly lol

I have the aftermatket LED unit on my TC light difference is amazing. Plug and play. It's no more fugly then what was there

Care to post a link to it, please?
There are quite a few threads about them.
Here's one.

+1 for the Chinese LED headlight unit, the dip beam cut off is excellent, I don`t get flashed as I did with LED and HID bulbs in the original headlamp unit.
Not sure about main beam performance as I have a pair of Hella FF50 Halogen spots which come on with main beam.
The FF50 Halogen spots are cheap but looking at the specs they outdistance the mega priced Denali Led Spots.

Another one for the Aliexpress headlight. I fitted it then spent a day fitting HIDs to my auxiliary lights and some Osram spots. At night went out, started bike and wow, bright with nice straight cut off so will be good abroad as well. Then turned on the HID auxiliaries. No real difference as the headlight was so good! Guess they'll be useful as backups should the main light go. Slipperyeels adjuster is a good addition as the light comes with no adjuster mechanism.

The aliexpress one is no cheaper than the motea unit, after taxes and sipping has been factored in

MIght have to see what the slush fund is up to

Think it’s about £10ish more. But, you get the support of a company just over the water. The first one they sent got stuck at customs so called and a new shipment was sent next day. That one turned up a bit broken - god knows how as it was very well packed and im sure it would’ve been checked prior to sending… my money is on a customs inspection gone wrong 🤣 - so following a call another has been sent. Im sure the Aliexpress sellers are great but when things go wrong it’s nice to get great customer service without a time delay and potential language barriers. Just my experience 👍

Motea is where I got mine. Payed a bit more than Ali- express but was thinking of return/ guarantee if I had a problem. I don't have the adjuster on the back or bother fitting the aftermarket 3D adjuster on sale from here as mine is grand the way I fitted it.

30% off at Motea today.

Approximately what do the import duties / taxes add up to when buying a headlight unit?
Almost the same as any discount ;)

someone kindly sent a link, it it was £219 with -25% so £150 but came to £219 when P&P etc was added

Using HMRC guidelines best i could make out was 20% and a possible further 2% charges

So smoke & mirrors

Interestingly the same unit via Motea on ebay is £208 with free delivery

They have the same unit with many prefixes ET1 ET2 ET9 ET12 for QL4 compatibility - as to chich one is correct ... i have no idea

When I bought mine from AliExpress all in it came to about £140.00
That's taxes delivery everything. So considerably more than £10.00 cheaper than what they are quoting above.

Prices at Motea seem to have gone up since I bought mine a few weeks ago. a bit cheaper than £140. £134.99 with all taxes and postage, hence my comment about a £10 difference 😉

Not sure if Motea want the damaged one back yet. If they don’t I’ll offer it up here to see if someone fancies a lens swap.

So, all have taxes or shipping,

cant work out Moteas pricing, i make it £197 inc taxes how they add a further £20 odd is strange

Dont mind which, but i dont fancy paying couriers , as they always add there cut to everything

@Santa-2512 , The prices seem to change on a daily basis. I was lucky enough to get a price on their website of £134.99 meaning that THEY collect and pay the tax. A penny over £135 and YOU have to pay taxes to customs on ANY transaction if it’s coming from overseas be that Motea, eBay, Ali etc. thems the rules 🙂

Just to say you won't get a headlight for £33.31. It's kind of funny how Ali Express listing works, it shows a picture of the headlight and a price but there are about 4 different items on the listing and £33.31 gets you a pair of AUX lights. This is more apparent when you click to buy then a picture of your selected item comes up.
