Dirty headlight - inner

Just to say you won't get a headlight for £33.31. It's kind of funny how Ali Express listing works, it shows a picture of the headlight and a price but there are about 4 different items on the listing and £33.31 gets you a pair of AUX lights. This is more apparent when you click to buy then a picture of your selected item comes up.
Of course. I can't put a link up with the headlight selected. But the price when you chose the headlight is pretty good.

Have you even looked at the thread I highlighted in post #4.

Link to this on AliExpress.

Another here that says free postage.

You could have added what the additions were and what your final price was just to let others know for future reference. 👍🏻

Lots of numbers there 🤣 The acid test is the amount taken from your account…

I've been using LED bulbs in the TC, but as they are big buggers you cant get the dust cap back on

So i purchsed some compact LED bulbs, and popped them in today

not convinced if they have the same brighness, although they claim to be 70W as opposed to the 65W of the bigger unit

what i have noticed though is that the inner face of the headlight has streaks on it where condensation has heated up and run down the inside

i was thinking of thin spar with an alcohol soaked rag to go over the inside of the glass

I'll stay clear of the reflector as it only has microns of plating on it

THe other way was the aftermatket LED lamp unit complete, but i dont know what there like, apart from fugly lol
When I Installed big LED Bulbs in my OEM Lamp Unit, I used Aerosal Can Lids as Covers. Might sound a bit daft, but it worked a treat. The only downside being that, because they're so fiddly to fit into the OEM Dust Seal, I had to remove the Lamp Unit from the Bike to fit them.

That's an idea :) , might give it a try .. daft part is the new unit should be here in 10-15 days time

There used to be a saying back in some of the early years of this site: "This thread is worthless without pictures!" I kinda want to say that here - would you take pictures of your replacing the LED's please, and post? And then I remembered there is even an emoji or whatever these daft things are called....:chuck:postpics

Ill get pictures up..

But lamp unit arrived, slippery eels adjuster fitted and.

The jury is out...

Dipped beam is fine,

Main beam is problematic 🙁

If i turn it on it works 9 times out of 10

Flash my lights, it works. 50 50

And it sometimes wil do
an on off on when it turns on, which is an mot failure

Ill beam set it later, and run it for the week, but i'm. Not 100% happy

Well that was an unmitigated disaster,

Nothing went right from start to finish,

So from the top -

The headlight case is different from the oem unit where the underside spigot thing is -

The Oem unit is flat, the aftermarket unit angled.

THis meant that the adjuster does not stick on the centre pad at all, just the side pads..

I stuck it using the side pads , and left it for 20 hrs, ( i dont have the luxury of being without the bike so i have to get things done asap)

Fitted the lamp unit, and we hit our first problem..

The high beam is hit and miss, sometimes it will come on , sometimes it wont. flashing the headlights is a 50 /50 chance that they will flash,

sometimes it comes on with its own flash x2 than its fine....

Then to set the beam...

I marked 40 inches on the garage door, rolled the bike back 25ft and turned on the ignition..... beam on the floor :(

then i realised, that was the spots , so i started the bike and the beam is about 4 inches below the dip beam low mark

High beam is a country mile above the dip upper mark, so i dont have a clue

I tried the adjuster, and at max adjustment its 2 inches lower than the dip low mark

The adjuster is great for pushing the beam down, but not for bringing it up :(

I tried moving the lamp unit up but all i got was some loud cracking from the unit / so l stopped

I can see that the small pads from the adjuster have failed, . not the end of the world, i can get some more

i was thinking of removing the adjuster and fitting the spigot grommet and see if that would change things

But i guess i need to decide if the unit is defective and return it ... ( that will be fecking expensive )

not a happy bunny atm

Ive got to figure out

I think you're the first person to have any trouble with one that I have heard of. I'd check the wiring connectors are snuggly fitted. This could cause the intermittent high beam I suppose. As for trying to align the beam. I never bothered faffing around like that. I fitted a grommet in the bottom. Wedged it in. And set mine about as high as it would allow and I've not adjusted it since. Rarely use the high beam to be honest. It just adds a bit of light in the middle above the low beam. Rarely needed.

Been out again this morning, and looked again,

The main beam is still slow to light, and or gives a flash as it lights up

Not really happy so ive requested a refund -

If i accept a replacement I doubt it will be here in time for the holiday, which was the whole purpose of obtaining the unit

I might just get my money back and stick with what i had previously

Do you ever have one of those days you wish you never bothered :blast:blast

So, raised the return paperwork, took the LED unit off the bike, swapped everything back to stock

refitted the stock unit, turned on and lampf .. your fucking kidding...

checked the bulbs - both of them all good started pressing the headlamp button - and fecking thing only works every 2nd or 3rd press or not at all

so it looks like it's the sodding switch or something else

just been out and had another play - exacatly the same symptoms on the stock set up - sheesh

At least you know it's not the new headlight. 😁😁
You'll get there.

Hi..just got a headlight from Aliexpress for my 2010 1200gs...wired it up temporary, works perfect,a couple questions. I recall reading before someone reckoned you needed to seal the unit up with silicone before fitting, cant find it anywhere now,has anyone seen a need to add silicone?,hope to get an adjuster from Slippery eel(email sent),is there a specific perspex headlight guard for the unit...you'll sort the wiring no prob Santa🤞

I found no need to seal anything on mine. My BMW headlight protector fitted straight on. The one with the rubber grommets that slip Into the holes to let you just pull the cover off for cleaning. I'm sure others will fit without any problems as the basic shape and fitting are the same as stock.

For fixings - almost, some of the bezels however have been modded as i found out with the adjuster,
