hi, cleaned my bike after the last ride so i know everything was spotless (09 GSA) just come back from 100 mile ride and i've noticed the rear wheel rim is dirty in the centre. no big deal, but it looks like it's liquid thats caused it. i can't see any leaks anywhere, but i've heard about the dreaded final drive. when the seal goes does it spew oil out quickly or does it start as just a mist ? need to have confidence in this bike, going on a 3000 mile round trip in 2 weeks !

i think it maybe oil, deffo a liquid anyway. it has "spidered" out from the centre of the rim with the centrifugal force of the wheel.

Well I'm no mechanic or tech head but that doesn't sound good if it's oil based. I'd have it back to the dealers for inspection especially with your planned trip in mind... and keep your Assist card on hand while you're away...

Most FD failures will spread oil over the FD. It's not easy without pictures to see what the problem is but there's a chance that what's spreading is the residue from your cleaning efforts. Those hubs have all sorts of nook and crannies from where 'stuff' can be spun out.

Might be best to post some pictures though.
