Just picked up my first gs 2003 9.000 miles feel sure it has a slightly distorted disc abs wouldnt cause this unless it was actually coming in would it ?

No it wouldn`t, but the discs may just have crud on them that causes the same effect. Mine has done nearly 50K and the discs are still looking good :thumb

VFR 800 &/or 1150GS ;)

see you to are from the vfr fold woke up this morning with out mine. like hearing of gs's with lots of miles as nobody worries more about breaking down than me & I was spoilt with the vfers so heres to a hapy beginning me hopes and trouble free servo assisted ABS

discs knackered

My 1150 has done 40,000 miles in 2 1/2 years and is on its SIXTH set of front discs. As has been discussed on here before I'm in no way heavy on the brakes its just the disc material is shite. My previous 1150 did similar mileage in the same time frame being ridden exactly the same and was on its original discs at trade in.
We'll see what happens in March with the new 1150.
My advice would be take it back and get them replaced under warranty - discs, pads, fixing bolts and washers etc.

Good luck!

Nah, misunderstood, was suggesting you should amend your profile :thumb

What year is you current bike then Sherpa, and what are the symptoms?

My front discs warped back in July whilst I was in Garmisch. 2002 1150GS with 26k on the clock, out of warranty

Pads had plenty of life in them but I started to feel a 'pulsing' through the front brake lever at all speeds when braking. Hard braking from speed gave the worst effect.

Dealer checked them back in the UK & the right hand disk was worst but both were definitely warped. After a bit of checking I noticed that the disc lock I use had some new marks on it that I'd never noticed before so made me think that someone had taken a fancy to my bike but failed to beat the lock.

Both discs & pads replaced but made the bike trip more expensive than I'd originally planned.

March 03 bike
Pulsing through the brake lever on anything more than moderate braking.
Bike has ABS which I personally think has some'at to do with it.
New one won't have.

Sherpa ;)

Same simptons as mine faster you go the harder you brake the worse it is.

So are newer discs of poorer quality than old ones? MY 1150 is a year 2000 with 40k and the original discs look in good condition and certainly don't have any symptoms of warping. I have ABS as well but don't understand why this would effect the discs more than standard brakes.

Interested in the disc life debate .
My 2002 adventur with 22k is on its original set, but look in poor nick
as the suface has some pitting, even when cleaned
Anyone else seen this ?
If I wasnt such a tight git i would replace them, anyone know how much new ones are ?
:eek

Dealer said bring it back we'll sort it .Don't keep them in stock & only fitted one this year
