has any ones wheels been discoloured by washing with bike cleaner

no but I have heard that Muc off is not that kind to bikes as they say... also don't leave WD40 or such on rims as if it heats it stains..

Yes - my dealer obliterated my front wheel with something (not sure what they used) and it went permanently milky.
To their credit, they didn't blink an eye at my complaint and immediately replaced it without a hint of quibble!

Car wheel cleaners like "Wonder Wheels" etc are far too aggresive for the delicate BMW Lacquer.... if used you need to wash it off with cold water in moments....once they have gone "milky" you is fooked.... only a full stripdown, lacquer removal, polish, re lacquer and rebuild will save you,...

If your dealer has given it a "free wash" during a service kick off, they are using the wrong stuff...... if you have done it, well, lession learned....:thumb2

Next time, I shall specifically ask then not to wash my bike ...!!

A certain BMW dealer "washed" my wifes 6 month old Mini..... proper knackered the Black paint, scratched to buggery...took a specialist company half a day to polish it all out....

nowadays if i use a main dealer.... its no washing for me!!....

spoke to bmw customer care after dealer and they have both refused to repair it, telling me you cant clean bike with bike cleaner wtf

sorry to hear about this, but i guess its not BMW's fault if you used too strong a cleaner, or left it on too long....

not what you expect with a top quality bike, maybe they should tell you these things, never bothered previous bikes Suzuki ktm Kawasaki and 2 bmw,s one with similar wheels

Difficult though

It's very difficult to clean the wheel though - particularly the central hub area you need just about every type of brush known to man to try it!

Pressure washing is useless so it's toothbrushes, paint brushes and very limited cleaning product time 😳

Hi
I use a PH neutral cleaner on my bike, I also clean bikes part time for a local bike shop and have a customer list of regulars that get me to give their bikes a good clean.

Muc off is quite abrasive and should be used diluted or wet the bike first then spray it on. Personally I prefer the PH neutral cleaners as you know they will not harm any delicate surfaces.
certain chemical cleaning products will discolour anodised parts in seconds and our BMW spoked rims will suffer too.

if in doubt just use normal car wash and wax products, I also use scottoil 365 or WD40 on a cloth to go over the wheels after drying.

thanks terry, I wont make this mistake again, now that I know

Ive just spec'd my new bike with wires and was thinking about the finish on the wheels, what was the product you was using ! Be good to no so that others don't make the same mistake as well.

Never found it a problem, on any spoked GS wheels:nenau

I always use SDOC100 power gel, and either Zymol or AutoGlym car shampoo, and never had a issue on any of my bikes.:beerjug:

Out if interest, what did you use, that caused the problem?

PH neautral cleaner

Hi Tony

in case you are interested this is what I use.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-VALET-...ssories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item19cfbe8003

its snow foam and you can use it in a foam lance, as I do. or mix about an inch or two topped up with water in a spray bottle spray it on and it will get to work breaking the dirt down, but not your precious metal.
and then use a little in a bucket of water and wash as normal. its the best stuff ive found and use it all the time now.

there are others listed as cherry snow foam but believe me the best is the UK Valet stuff. (no connection to me its just good stuff)
