On my voyage of discovery (!) I am finding I am trying to put photos onto a disc, unfortunatly I have dvd discs and the drive is a cd drive and it won't work!!. Is this why or have I other problems?. I admit to being a complete pratt whenn it comes to this as I've always avoided all this stuff but it has caught up and this luddite is having to venture into the unknown.
Any advice very welcome.
dave gs.( not a computer fan).

Dave,

Do this:

Click on 'my computer' - what does it say under the heading 'devices with removable storage'?

CD's

Hi Mike,
Yes done this I've got a dvd and a cd drive (not the dell) when I put it to send details to disc it tells me to put it in the "G" drive which is the CD drive.
The dvd drive plays dvd's ok but I'm thinking won't record on to DVD's, am I right in thinking these devices are different?.
Many thanks for your assistance.

Dave - if you go to my computer - right click on the drive, then click on hardware - does the letter 'R' appear anywhere? - if it is a new pc, I would be surprised if one of these devices does not record. Let me know?

Yes - the CD will only play CD's and the DVD will play both formats. They will only be able to record if they have the letter 'R' on the device name.

Do you have a teenager nearby who might be able to help you?

Mike, thats the problem, the computer I am using does not have the "R", as it is now a few years old and as I say only used for letters certificates etc for which it is adiquate. Teenagers are few and far between but thanks for the advice as this wil be the prob I thought they discs were the same most
books assume that the reader knows all this!. So all I will require is some CDs no probs. I will take your earlier advice and get another drive have looked in Maplins and was suprised at what's on offer.
So many thanks for your help and I am now on the straight and narrow( ha, ha, whatch this space!).
Many thanks,
dave gs.

No worries - g'luck with it.

Make sure then that you get a DVD/R ROm - much more useful, and can burn onto both CD's and DVD's (cost you a £5 more if you shop around)
