Hi

My saddle on my 2014 gs Adventure lc is slowly beginning to disintegrate in the vinyl. It is becoming more and more sticky so my trousers are more or less glued to the saddle while driving.

Except for getting a new saddle, is there any thing I could do?

The bike is in mint condition and has always been kept in a dry and heated shed. I have not used any special products to clean the saddle. Just water and soap.

What would make the material break down like that... sure soap and water would not attack it? Strange?

Are you sure its not a build up of something stuck on it ? (pics would help).. try clean a little bit with petrol or something.

If not, you could have it re-covered, but there must be loads of used ones about... try Moto Werks...

I once had a Motomod two piece suit. It was fantastic.
But one of the major drawbacks was the material reacted with the seat covering and made it all sticky.

Hi. I have 2014 GSA and I'm having the same problems with the seats. Started a few weeks back. Gets really sticky and attracts a lot of dirt. Also left a sticky residue on the seat of my riding pants. Tried scrubbing with WD40 which worked for a while but the problem returned.
Mentioned it to my local dealer when it went in for it's service last week. The gaffer there said he hadn't seen any other bikes with the same problem. He spent 2 hours cleaning/scrubbing with brake cleaner then a specialist vinyl seat liquid. It's slightly better but found today it's starting to go slightly sticky again.
When I come back from my Euro trip next week I'm going to contact a few firms and see about getting the seats re-covered. New padding as well.
My cleaning regime hasn't changed and for the last 2.5 years I've had it. Also used the same cleaners on my previous bikes with no issues.
Anybody got any ideas what may be causing it?

Cheers!!

are you wearing leather on it?.. could be something they use to dye or fix the finish on the trousers?

PVC and polystyrene go sticky when in contact.

I had the same problem with my 2015 bike seat. I've had it recovered. Only used BMW Atlantis suit on it. ???? Only cleaned it with car shampoo, in water and auto glym vinyl care. Not the best of Vinyl I suspect.

So there seems to be a problem with some saddles after 4-5 years. I have mostly been driving in motorcycle jeans. I have done this for several years on different bikes. Never seen anything like this. Cannot add pictures but one can clearly see that the fabrics is disintegrating and picks up all kinds of rubbish in what seems to be glue or sticky liquid from the saddle.

Have you talked with your dealer about getting it fixed?

I just replaced the cover, there was someone selling sets of covers a year ago on fleabay for about £8.00. I just replaced them both for £50.00. would be easy enough to do your self if you had the correct staple machine.
