Dissappearing rear seat

Went out for a fride today and a following bike pulled alongside to tell me that the rear part of my bike seat was in the gutter a couple of miles back down the road. I had taken it off and replaced it but obviously it hadn't fastened on properly. anyone else had similar problems, just ordered a replacement (at £112) so an exepensive ride
The seat has never fastened on very convincingly, there's no good solid click, think I'll tether the new one to the bike

What colour seat was it JayGee?
I've got a yellow '05 GS with grey seats & black trim, I've been thinking of changing to black seats.
I could sell you my rear for cheaper than a new one if you want grey.

Mine's black, Pidcock's have just got one in for me. An expensive mistake on my part but i can't gelp feeling that the rear seat fastening isn't very possitive, it's easy to think the catch has caught when it hasn't. I was riding stood up and messing about otherwise I doubt it would have come off- so, my c*ck-up
If anyone wants a damaged black rear seat let me know, material ripped at corners and one fixing leg brocken.

You need to ensure that those 'fixing legs' are in properly.

I had a near miss when I first got the bike but always check now.

i usually leave a spare Rok Strap across the rear seat. handy if i need to carry anything too

I find the more problematic fixing is the front catch ( a bit like a car bonnet style catch) that doesn't always engage properly.

Lost mine on the M6 at around 75mph. Luckily I felt it go and it fell to the ground as I slowed and dived for the hardsholudr. It bounced from lane two to hte verge and survived pretty unscathed.

as i am sitting on the frount the back aint going no where

and it is comfy too

I took the rear seat off mine about a month after buying it, and its been in the garage ever since!!

I had the same problem when I bought my 1150 so I adjusted the mechanism by packing out the metal 'hoop' on the seat with a couple of thin flat washers - no problem now - nice 'click' everytime !

It sounds like a bit of a poor design to me, something you'd have thought the designers at BMW would have sorted by now! Like some of the others have said here, I can remember having trouble getting the seats fitted on my old 1100GS. My 1150 GSA, isn't perfect to slot back in, but at least it's one piece, so can't fall off whilst I'm riding.
I'm going to have to be very careful when I get my new 1200 at the end of May.
It could potentially be extremely dangerous, especially if riding in a group, thanks for alerting us all to the dangers and better luck with your saddle in the future!

Yep, I did ask the two riders behind me why they hadn't caught it,
Yet another dropped catch

TBH it was clearly my fault although the not very positive fastening didn't help.

Someone must be picking them up because they regularly appear on ebay and generally go for about £30 sometimes cheaper.
