After a brimming refill, my steed's Distance To Empty measure stuck itself at 155 miles. After about 50 miles it had the good grace to fall to 154 miles.

It correctly re-set itself on restart.

Demonic possession or something serious.

The XR shows 155 on them all once full no matter how much more fuel you manage to get in.

Yep
Will only ever show a max of 155

It will do 20 miles after showing zero however

Just the same 155 on fill up. Always refuel around 50 left so no idea what it will do on a tank full and I don't care as it spends most of the time at 4000rpm and above.

He's asking whether your XR's are showing similar symptoms - by not updating miles remaining as the bikes running.. He's not stupid enough to ask advice on how far it goes.

ya dozy twats:rob

Sod off:D
it updates the miles once it get below 155miles left in the tank. So doesn't change for the first 40 miles or so, depending how hard you are spanking it, then it works fine.

The fuel gauge in terms of remaining range is pretty accurate while sensibly erring on the side of caution. On a brimmed tank (20 litres according to the tech spec) I got to 200 miles with 2 miles range remaining and it took just over 18 litres to brim it again so as someone has already said you have about 20 miles range when it shows "0" range.

So the conclusion is that the XR has a crap fuel gauge.

No the gauge is fine in terms of the bar indicator on the dash. It's just that the range indicator won't give you a range greater than 155 miles and only starts to come down when it calculates you have a range of 154 miles or less.

What is the range of an XR? The GS LC does something similar, if I brim the tank then my range indicator reads typically 240 miles, it is slow to come down to start with but does respond immediately to changes in riding style, but then seems to drop more rapidly once it had got to below 200 miles ish.

Its all relative - compared to my F800 its pretty poor but, I suspect, BMW have considered it more of a `sports` bike than a tourer. I guess its just a matter of getting used to the range and planning more regular stops (not a bad idea with my old bones anyway).

As another relative comparison one of the geezers in our Andorra trip this year was respectfully daft enough to go on a GSXR750 and was filling up his tank (and booking into the local A&E) before 100 miles had been covered!

But as some may know I`m also a huge fan of demonic spitrits :bounce1

I know that at 80-85 on a motorway it's just over 200. Ridden hard on A and B roads it seems to be in the order of 150-170.

Fuel

Is the naked S1000 the same range or has it a smaller tank.

oh yeah, 17 Litres.

Nutty.

So beside the tank size and protection is the XR a better bike. ?
