Further to fitting the PDM60, I was able to fit a heated seat pad (riders seat only at the moment).
I thought some pics and comments might be of interest as I suspect others have thought to do the job.
First, finding a heated seat, even secondhand, for the GS hex head is down to luck these days. I did contemplate getting my wallet out, but actually, I couldn't find one! Glad I didn't though. Saved a lot of money!
The job is actually very straightforward. Especially with the PDM. The downside is the when you buy a 'kit' from eBay/Amazon etc. You're really just buying the seat pad as the quality of the loom, switch and relay is all suspect! I replaced a lot with nice 16awg braided silicone wires, but in bit of a rush, so will have the tank off to redo it all with nice sheathing, removal of the relay but mostly get the under seat plug sorted. I used a 12mm auger bit which dealt well with the foam. When the wires/loom were fed through, I stuffed a lot of the foam back in to fill the gap. It seems to have worked
. Oh, you'll need 1/4"/6mm staples to fix the cover.
Under the seat, there is a space to the left side of the shock mounting point (left side when sitting on the bike). I will keep using Deutsch connectors, but so the seat plug/unplug can be done with one hand, the male plug will be fixed. Will share a pic when it's done as an update to this post
The little issue that might need some creativity is the switch. Depends which 'kit' you by as maybe different switches come with. Currently using the supplied switch, but it's an interior switch and horrible to use with gloves on. Alternative ordered... You might be better at all this kind of thing than me and know of a better switch (dpdt - on/off/on). I combined mine with the Warm & Safe controller mount. All done in a hurry
Currently, heading south to Italy. It's quite warm and pleasant for November! But...on a low setting, the seat is a long overdue comfort. The high setting is HIGH!! The most involved part of the job is taking off the tank, routing the loom and connecting to battery/PDM. It's not a days work.
Hope this is of some use!
