Not being funny about it at all, but what do you guys actually use these for?

I used to spend money on higher quality camera bodies and zoom lenses back in my 35mm days and even then I realised that photography is in the main, for the enjoyment and satisfaction of the photographer. I have all of this now sitting in boxes.

I have seriously asked myself, "What would I do with a drone?" and I can't quite find an answer. I was tempted by a well-placed offer in Walmart, Las Vegas but couldn't see why?

Ha Ha i USED to say the same until i had my first drone now i love them i use them for fun holidays and my youtube channel. Couldn't feel happy without one. You just get the thrill of piloting one and getting great arial footage thats impossible to get with a camera. I use three cameras and a drone most weekends. Each to their own

Big Derek, just beat me too it. If you were still into you photography , you would see it as a camera that can get to places are inaccessible or just giving you a different perspective from above. Also with all the vlogging that goes on it's a great piece of kit if you are lucky or unlucky for some quality news gathering.

Its not complex its so easy and costs £10 a year plus insurance if like me you loose a few drones in Spain and France All this is well worth the effort of flying a drone its sap much fun looking at the footage when you get back to base.

What do you do with your camera equipment? Same principle.

Drone allows you to capture moments in time from unique angles not otherwise possible. Gives a very different perspective.

Nope. Open book 40 questions (which are common sense), £12 odd and you have an operators and flyers ID.

My Lito X1 would probably be going up soon on here, great starter drone with 3 batteries, newer screen remote, LIDAR crash detection etc

as the guys said above...drones have two elements of fun - firstly, just flying them is great, especially if you have an FPV which gives you the drones view via a set of goggles. Its quite thrilling to fly under the arch of a bridge or see the same view of the world as a bird of prey would from 100s of feet above ground level. Secondly, you get the chance to film and photo from very unique perspectives - above, below, far away etc.. Modern drones pretty much fly themselves and have tons of automated flight modes which make capturing really epic footage and photos as easy as using the camera on your phone.

I went to a fellas house last year he had 9 drones he was really excited still every time he flew any of them.

Our Lass uses a Mini 4 Pro for work content. She wouldn’t be without one now. The extra options they provide to a photographer are very worthwhile.

Every time I sell one I miss it, then buy another, it’s an odd fascination but I just can’t not have one in my life.
My Grandad was the same with Wurlitzer and Hammond organs, he kept upgrading, the last Wurly he bought was in 1979 and cost the same as a MK4 2.0 Cortina Ghia at the time.

I think its good im the same with guitars ive had hundreds and wish i still had the first 60's strat but its been great along the years, I have a Gibson Hummingbird sat here never use it Mmm maybe it should go. Re drones ive a fascination to with them now and like a lot of things wish i had started sooner... I thought the Dji Mini 5 pro and all theft i was offering less than a year old would hav sold by now. Maybe I'll drop it to £750.....?

A drone is a flying camera to me. A very tall tripod if you need it, a fast following video camera when you need that BUT, what many people forget is that it doesn't have to be flying to use the camera - it makes a very good ground level gimbled camera in your hand too, or even a static camera sat on a table, the topbox, a rock..... I have taken the professional qualifications over and above the mandatory CAA required annual doodah. I started with the DJI AIR, then soon went to the Mavic2Pro with it's adjustable aperture camera and people don't realise that it also has a zoom aspect to the video (not advertised, but it does!) I shall get it photographed and up for sale, 4x batteries, multi charger, car charger, gadget that turns a battery into a power bank for emergency phone charging or whatever, several sets of spare props, 2 sets of filters, including polarisers, tablet that fits the controller arms and is just dedicated to flying the drone - all the normal guff taken off and just the DJI apps on it so the battery lasts weeks! It takes some lovely shots:

I did this one dawn - it is as taken with levels tweaked that's all, for our town Christmas card (facebook picture saved, so greatly reduced)





I use it mostly for work for doing site progress pictures and odd bits of footage












I have gone up in size again to the Mavic4 pro, which will be the last one I buy - who needs more than 100Mb individual images? A 9 shot panoramic is nearly 1Gb
