Do BMW Motorrad dealers use customers bikes as THEIR OWN courtesy or DEMO Bikes?

The original OP asked if dealers use customers bikes. I know that they do. I took my GSA in for a service and was told it was needed to be kept overnight, turned up early next morning and saw one of the staff arriving for work on it.

Soaking wet, as it had rained the night before.

Did you shout and scream at them or just wimp off, to wipe the water from the awsome steed?

PS Reports like this are made more interesting if the date of the outrage is detailed, along with the name of the dealership.

You've got to speak as you find and I'd guess that there are tales of woe about every bike (and car) dealership. Those who receive poor service complain bitterly and those who have experienced satisfactory service return again and again.

I know a load of people who have bought many bikes from Coopers and been happy with the service and the deal - myself included (although I've also bought bikes from Motorrad dealers in Birmingham and Oxford). I also know people who wouldn't cross their door and spend a lot of time and petrol money travelling to dealers outside of the region.

For sure it seems that the OP has had poor service and the best thing is to walk away from that deal, unless there is some recognition of the poor service in the form of a reduction in price?

If they used your bike charge them daily hire rates. There is another issue. If the bike is yours as in really yours and they have used it without your permission then there is no insurance in force because you cannot be insured if the owner of the bike does not consent to it’s use. JJH

They (the dealership) probably have a ‘trade’ Motor policy, which insures them to ride any vehicle in their care, custody and control, with or without the owner’s informed consent.

I know that here In Ireland it’s a specific offense using without the owners consent and it’s not possible to get insurance for that. In other words if convicted of the using bit you would automatically have no insurance even with open driving. JJH

I knew the rider by name and asked him about it and was told he had to test something. I would like to think I'd made my point, and it never happened again ( to my knowledge! ). Date was winter 2014. The rider has left the dealer so it is pointless in naming them. Following the waste-of-time test ride (June 2018) I've not been back, and won't be going back. In my book everyone can make 1 mistake, but not two. Sadly, these are not my worst experiences at Motorrad dealers, I must have a lucky face. Alan

Name and shame for the second event.

Just picked my bike up from Coopers in Sunderland after the 1st service. No complaints here also a new set of Tourances tyres after I complained about the Anakee 3s the bike came with. 1 st service done for £85.

In the interest of fairness, I've had 2 bikes from them, the second of which had an ongoing warranty issue with the suspension. It ran on a few weeks and involved a couple of trips to get it sorted but on the whole they handled it well. I was given virtually brand new courtesy bikes, the warranty issue was never quibbled and I got a very fair deal on a new back tyre as a good will gesture for the inconvenience.

Not sure how to put a link on here but I started a thread entitled 'D ESA issues' which is a few topics down from this one.
