Got the heap out yesterday with new battery!! (good old Motor Works) l went well after a quarter mile red triangle started flashing. All working ok oil level
ok lights all working. This is a 21008 non servo machine, after a mile flashing stopped and just stays on, then after another mile it goes off and yellow triangle comes on. Fuel flashing on display so put a gallon in and tank full but
still flashing fuel, fuel sender strip u/s?. All going well apart from the illuminations any one got any ideas (yes, I have RTFM!) thought a bit of piss taking or even advice? would save a lot of drinking time!.
Any help appreciated.
 
Maybe its a secret hidden tech to warn you its about to blow up.

Otherwise:
  • oil pressure switch sticking
  • fuel strip US
  • bBattery needs charging and low system voltage is muddling the ECU
 
1200's agghh

Thanks for the thoughts, oil light (symbol not showing) battery voltage is probably something to do with it just wait and see what develops with the fuel strip!! I must get back to Vins they either go or they don't usually cease in the pouring rain in the dark on the M1! oh happy days!. Guess I'll take up armchair riding and just watch, Charley & thingy on vidio!."

No probs with these, think the prob lies with battery voltage, new one put on
sat, just a brief run around the block to test (brief as no MOT or tax) and a run down the MOT stn about four miles. So starting takes a bit out of it and they are small batteries and the red triangle goes off after a short run. Put volt meter on it and showed no much more the 12 volts so now on charge which should have happen before so many thanks for all the nods saves a lot of F about!. I quite agree about air heads got two of a type manufactured in a sunny corner of Hertfordshire in the "good old days!".
 
Always charge a new battery before fitting, even when you've just added fresh electrolyte to commission a new battery.

I dunno why I dident do this guess it's just senelity setting in! am doing it at present so hope that's it. Dident really think much could be wrong but if it does self destruct just make sure I get to the Mosqe car park in time!! .

Well, just been for a run in the sun and no light!! in about a mile it started the panel is still flashing "fuel" even though I topped it up. In order to try to sort out the fuel sender I had a heavy braking session fuel stayed the same light went out!, came back intermittantly after that fuel stayed the same. Just wondered if it flashes red when you are about to stop through lack of fuel?
flashing light getting on my nerves guess it's time for the black tape to come out. Not too bothered as every thing else is going ok but will have to invest in another sender I think. Not impressed so far with 1200's at all, bit lighter than 1150's but that's about it.

What year is the 1200? Only the later ones had the digital fuel strip.
 
My 59 plate twin cam has a float assembly!

BMW discovered this when they tried to change the strip, only to find the float had stuck in the empty position.
 
Fuel strip

After riding british bikes for yonks with out a fuel gauge (or lots of other things!, it's funy how one gets used to having these "luxuries".
 
The trick to unseat stuck fuel floats: Hoik a minger with a firm landing.
