Do I have a clutch/slave seal problem???

brake & clutch fluid sucks up moisture like a sponge if left for a long time..... what is moisture i hear you ask??? H2O.... yes that also includes "air"

Fer fecks sake it's simple: air is light, fluid is heavier. How on earth can air seep its way into the fluid. Of course moisture can contaminate the brake fluid and decrease the boiling point so decreasing braking efficiency.Air can only be dispersed in a fluid through agitation. End of.

You have both proved the argument and ignored my statement.

Moisture is made up of part fluid part gas.... its the boiling point of this moisture we talk about that converts to gas thus we have the point we are all making.

the point to all this is.... bleed the thig to get clean uncontaminated fluid and if it works then it works!

Okay. Why don't we allow this to rest for a while until the OP submits his conclusions to the cause of his fault condition because some of this thread is starting to look like the 1200 section whilst making definitive claims without the presentation of objective evidence.

Solutions have been provided upon experience, albeit more or less, and I look forward to the OP's results and note them for future use.

Just because something makes sense doesn’t mean it’s right.

This is stupid, the OP states that there is no loss of fluid, he was sat at lights clutch in, bike starts to engage clutch.Clearly a loss of pressure.Forget moisture or air or heat. IF there is no loss of fluid it can ONLY be the master cylinder.Turn that comment around, so if something makes sense then its nonsense. If anyone thinks I am having a pop at them, then your wrong.Just helping a bike rider out with basic hydraulics.

Thanks for the great trouble-shooting

This colonialist didn't mean to stir up trouble in the Motherland!:beerjug:
Since I last wrote, I accomplished the following:

1) put speed-bleeders on clutch line (and calipers) and bled with fresh DOT4-by the way, I removed the BMW check valve part on the clutch bleed line to properly attach the speed-bleeder-$7

2) I ordered a master cylinder rebuild kit from beemerboneyard- $35

Until I get a chance to replace the master, I took it out on the same course to try to repeat the problem and could not duplicate it.

Thank you all for all the advice.

Don't try and replicate the problem by sitting in gear with the clutch held in as you wil knacker the thust bearing and that is a tranny out job and lots of $$$$$$$.:thumb

That is very low mileage for the year and if it has been unused for some time sticking seals are a possibility and regular use may just sort the problem. If it doesn't you're no worse off.

Great bikes, enjoy it.
