Do i need the alarm ?

All of my BM's have had factory alarms fitted, some were on the bikes when brought 2nd hand others I specked on the order, including my current 1250, twice in 30 years the alarm has triggered whilst at a hotel (both overnight stops on-route to destination, both in France) no sign of anyone on checking bike, no natural reason like weather for the alarm to go off, I will always spec an alarm on any bike order, but wouldn't bother with aftermarket alarms, seen a couple of bikermates have trouble with them (One had to be recovered to UK from Normandy because nothing could be done to get the bike going!)

In addition to the factory alarm, I have a chunky chain and lock

If I was looking to buy a used bike having a factory alarm fitted would be a benefit, having an aftermarket alarm a negative generally.
