I still have Mapsource and City Navigator V7 on my computer from when I had the SPIII, which I sold and upgraded to a 2610.

Can I download maps to the 2610 straight away, or do I need to change the driver first? Being thick, I don't know whether the drivers apply to all Garmin units, or whether there are specific drivers for each GPS unit. Assuming I need to change - is it an easy job? :nenau

I don't think you do, but visting the Garmin site will have the most up-to-date drivers. IIRC it's quicker to download the maps via a PCMCIA card adapter for the 2610.

BTW, have you matched the 2610 and the maps, also on the Garmin site?

The only thing you need to do is to install the unlock code belonging to the 2610 into MapSource on the PC. This will unlock the maps to your 2610. The rest is the same.

If the 2610 is brand new you need to login to the Garmin website using the Cupon Code that came with the 2610 to get your unlock code. If you wait a few weeks with doing this you will get version 8 of the map for free.

Another issue is that it is recommended (but not required) to begin with dowloading and updating both the firmware on the 2610 and MapSource on the PC before you do anything else. :type

Thanks boys. Will have a crack at it this evening.

Don't go far - no doubt I'll be back with more questions soon. :D

True to form, nothing goes smoothly. :banghead:

I've inserted the USB cable - both ends are secure, but when I try to download a mapset, a message comes up saying "No devices were found". :nenau

At this rate, I predict Dennis will be getting a call. :D :D

Are you using an old PC? On the Garmin website you can download an updated USB-driver. Maybe it's worth trying?
