Do I need to worry?

that "bubbling " is a warrant claim . get it recorded at the dealership so you can start going through the system . theres plenty of links on here for bubbling paint claims, In fairness BMW are sorting them out .looks like from Sept the UK will have Black engines

Thank you DC.
Can I expect them to provide me with an RT if it's in the dealership for any period of time?
It appears that my concerns of possible problems, after just three weeks of ownership, has already raised its ugly head.

What makes me chuckle is the GS commuters riding through Cardiff city centre on their bikes, possibly (meaning probably ), never taking their machines off tarmac, togged up in their BMW safari/desert/tropical gear. Oh dear me, but apologies, I'm swerving off topic.

Do they have a Tesco in the centre of cardiff.

personally I think you are just trolling the forum ;) but really? do you worry this much about all your bikes? do you lay awake and worry about the reg bursting into flame on your Honda? or any of the other occasional woes they like all mechanical items can suffer? or do you just have a bee up your ass about BMW? your last BMW apparently only had a couple of days use, and you made money on the deal, this one is covered by one of the better warranties out there, take advantage of it and stop the whinging already :rob

Fortunately, as a member of other forums in the past, I am fully aware that it takes all sorts to make up a forum, the good , the bad and the indifferent and I try to take on board what others have to say.
There may be die hard BMW supporters on this forum who vehemently dislike comments that put their bikes in an unfavourable light but the world would stand still if we didn't question things. I have admittedly started my first thread with some concerns about BMW but that is my prerogative.
I have not needed to stay awake at night concerned about Honda because nothing has ever gone wrong with them (not one thing in four bikes) but presumably I am allowed to try something else.
You will have to explain to me what "trolling the forum" is. I really don't understand.
Please read my previous comments. I do not worry about my bikes.
My last BMW was not owned "a couple of days". I have already stated it was faultless.
I am not whingeing. I am asking for your views and I'm delighted with the response.
I hope to make some useful contributions during the time I'm with you all and hope to learn a great deal about the bike. I have already booked a 10 day tour of Northern Spain next May with Brittany Ferries and looking forward to it.
Today I took my daughter for a pillion ride and we both loved it.

I think that the key for me is if I have a problem with the bike, BMW will sort. Unlike my experience with a new Harley I owned, where every warranty claim was a fight. Every manufacturer cuts corners, and BMW are suffering from a few paint issues, but they are sorting and I bet they will sort out the process going forward. If your so pleased with Honda, then buy another one. For me, the RT is a great bike and as long as BMW sort out any issues, I am fine with it

Thank you, casbar.
You are right in that it does look as if BMW are doing all they can to look after their customers with a mighty fine warranty.
Yes, I am a lover of Hondas but I try out lots of bikes to try to get a complete riding experience. Every bike is a compromise, we know that and no bike is perfect.
I haven't returned to the RT because I don't like them, obviously. They're brilliant, but how do you think I feel now, within three weeks of purchase, that I have a paint problem?
I want to be riding it not twiddling my thumbs whilst it's being repaired. Anyway, it will eventually be done and should be better than ever.

What casbar said, the RT is way way better than the ST1300 Pan. I owned two ST13's and did about 60,000 miles on them, they had a few issues, mainly screen mechanisms wearing out and a radiator rotting. My mate had a new alternator (big job) and numerous electrical issues on his ST13.

Honda's generally are very good but so are RT's, you pays yer money and takes yer chances with any purchase.

My RT is out of warranty, so I pay for the extended warranty for peace of mind, I'm on my second RT now and have only had a duff battery so far.

Thanks busy builder, your comments are appreciated.
It's certainly time for an ST1300 upgrade since it hasn't changed much since 2002.
Could you tell me, out of interest, what is the cost of the extended warranty, please?

I posted earlier on, my extended warranty with rescue is £360 for a year

I recently bought a 2015 R1200RT LE with 3000 miles.
It's in very good condition, as you would expect, and I'm pleased with my purchase. I have previously owned a 2011 RT which I sold after a year and the present bike is better. I tend to sell every 18 months or so and have been through a few.
I also have, apart from my Honda cubs, a 2014 Honda cbf1000 mk2 which is brilliant and I'm about to very reluctantly sell it.
The question is, whilst I know exactly what it is that I have bought in the RT, I am already having doubts whether I will keep it beyond the warranty Sept 2017.
I have doubts about BMW reliability and may well get out and sell next summer, even though I love the bike.
My Honda cbf1000 is bombproof and I'm in a quandary. I could, of course, take out extended warranty.
Any objective thoughts to alleviate my concerns?

Well done, you have won the award for the most pathetic sounding thread ever, get a grip man, it's only a bloody motorbike.

Thank you. I feel honoured. However, whilst you may regard it as "only a bloody motorbike", to me it's a £17500 motorbike and I'm counting on it to be worth every penny of the £12000 and a bit that I paid for it.

Your not a worrier, but asking about extended warranty costs a year before you need it - lol. Mine cost me about £360 with rescue and a small excess.

Thank you casbar. That seems a reasonable amount. I wasn't aware that you could choose to have the breakdown option as well.

I've used the rescue when I had a double blow out, they were quick and took me to the nearest BMW dealer. Although think it was the same van that the AA use, specialist m/c rescue. So probably AA would be just as good.

When I bought my first new BMW an R1100SS back in 2001, I used BMW's breakdown experts, Mondial 7 times in the 16 months I owned the bike. They were excellent, unlike the bike.
