Do sleeping pillions fall off??

I was always quite chuffed when Dani fell asleep on the back....I took it as a bit of a compliment on my riding.......you're not likely to fall asleep if you're not feeling fairly safe ;)

But she told me she had passed out:eek: ;)

Missus Gerry C doesn't do much pillion stuff any more but was a regular sleeper.
Many moons ago I sees this humbback bridge, decides to go for some air and get a nice smooth two wheel landing.
Well the next thing this pair of boots wedge themselves under my armpits.
Turns out she was asleep and the acceleration and takeoff caused her to topple over the back - no topbox.
Her head was a foot off the road, her arse on the seat and her legs under my armpits.
Without stopping she righted herself and said "sorry"!
I with great nobility I accepted the apology.
We were young then; aah!!!!!

falling off when you sleep

I have a mate who fell off when he was on the back of some one els but the driver never even new that he had gone till he got home and turned round , the lad that fell off was ok, just broke his arm, woke up in a bush all alone , wondering how he got there , he looked around for a bit looking for his bike , the rider backtracked and found him sitting on a fence ten miles back,

This is a brilliant thread - Mrs J and I love it.

It brings to mind the time when I went with my old school friend (later to be my Best Man) Simon to Aghios Nikolaios in Crete one summer back in 1982, just after I passed my finals at university.

One day, we hired a Vespa 50 and went exploring. Poor little scooter was struggling up the hills with two young blokes on board but after a mile or two, picked up speed and started to run really well.

I shouted back to Simon that it was running better and maybe there had been something wrong with it. No reply. I turned around to find he'd gone. He'd slid off the back.

I whipped the scoot around and raced off back down the hill. I found him half a mile back, sat in the middle of the road, towels, sun cream, books, all scattered around. He was well pissed off, I can tell you.

I have been sleeping for many hours on this bike! :sleep
No problem!
As long as those panniers and the topbox are there I can't fall of, but I would not fell safe without.

I sat straight, 90o angel in my knees and me hip, I didn't lean or hold myselfes to anything - because that bike are perfect for me. :thumb
The seat are soft so sank down - I didn't slide.

But I would not dare to sleep as a pillon on a sportsbike with no panniers/topbox - I'm sure that are NOT safe!:eek

(One bad side about getting a bike myselfes is I can't sleep on the bike...)
:) Liv.

In 1961 - my mum and dad's first date - he took her from Liverpool to North Wales...

Her a first time pillion wearing sticky out underskirts etc...
My dad, on his BSA Road Rocket, was merrily making progress as his pillion got the hang slowly, then he opened it up and hit the old hump back bridge by the RAF camp at Queensferry and thought my mum was getting the hang of it...

Just as he neared Mold he had to slow down at a junction and patted her on the leg...
Obviously no-one there, he retraced his steps and found her on the side of the road after the bridge unconscious with 3 medical staff from the air base (she'd been spotted sparko in the road) still out cold.

He told her in 2012 , when she was lecturing my brother and I, how biking was perfectly safe in those days (unlike today) :rob. She went bananas..
then (typical mum) said it proved her point - because nowadays a truck would have run over her whereas back then the traffic was a lot lighter!!

My ex used to fall asleep on the back of my bike all the time, She rode bikes herself so when on the back you did not know she was there .One time on a poker run a group of around ten bikes were together and on this particular stretch of road straight as a dye with a little hump on it I was right behind another bike and his pillion had his hands in his pockets,The pillion did not know about the hump and when the bike he was on hit it ,He fell back hands still in pockets I had visions of running over him as he stuck his feet under the riders arms and managed to not fall off.He got loads of stick about that and always held on after that.Francis
