Do you dress for visibility in the UK?

Thirty years in the police and I never heard of the scenario of anyone being run over in the dark after coming off their 'bike!

Not surprising they didn't tell you about it afterwards !

In view of the overwhelmingly strong "reductio ad absurdam" arguments posted in this thread, I have decided to change my dress style completely.

At night, I will ride without lights dressed all in black, and in the day I will paint my bike "urban camo" and get helmet and clothes to match. :) :rob

Yeah...but ...the Lego bike.... ermmmm... a bit bright innit .... :D I do admit the Urinal does do a good job of blending in, as a military bike should... but the Lego bike...subtle, NOT! :D :D Which is why we likes it :)

After my "sorry Mate Didn't see you " stay in Hosp last December a very nice policeman @ Bath station told me (unofficialy)to fit one of those blue led lights all the "boy racers" fit to their saxo's.
Fit it close to the headlights and wire up so it comes on with dipped beam / side lights.
Because it is a high intensity blue light, it makes drivers look twice (think you are a Fed) Thats providing they look in the first place! :thumb

That's terrific Gasman... superb :thumb

Then you'll ride knowing they've not seen you, not believing they can

I got my bananaman Aerostich suit last week and found that people clock the yellow hi-viz and flash of white beak and scoot out the way pronto.

Either that or they don't cos they're not looking :nenau

more dangerous ?

One thing everyone seems agreed on is that hi viz does not make it more dangerous !
As everyone in any job these days seems to need to wear hi viz why as bike riders do we think we don't need them ?
If hi viz makes it 1% less likely you will have an accident then I think it must be good, or would you not mind dieing thinking 'it was only 1% more likely ' ?

' [/COLOR]?

It's a lovely summers day, i need to go get a newspaper. I'll jump on my bike, wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and ride to the paper shop. If it's really nice, i'll even ride down to the coast

I ENJOY it, it's a great feeling.
It's freedom.
It's my choice. I just don't consider it any riskier than wearing all the gear.

whats the percentage of having an accident on the way to work wearing hi-viz - as opposed to not going at all and staying in bed all day ?

if you try to minimize every single risk in your life - you may as well stay in bed.

better to have tried than not tried at all..

Bin riding 44 years, over thirty years of it professionally, done probably, at least, half a million miles on two wheels.... and not once have I needed, or wished, I wuz wearing hi-viz

When I had to wear hi-viz the feckers still pulled out in front of me

Why stop at Hi-Vis. How about a blesha-beacon on top of your crash helmet.

Then you could all sleep soundly at night, instead of worrying about being knocked off all the time. :D
