Do you need landline to run wifi tablets

There is another way, but....

Don't want to be tied in to a landline . Is it possible to use tablets without having a line ???? If so what would you all recommend to get , any and all advice would be great as I am total numpty with computers . Thankyou in advance Geno
if i may make a suggestion. if your tablet has wifi on it do a search for local wifi networks. There are a lot of areas that have a BT openzone type connection which you can connect to at a cost, although I have to say I dont know how much.

The other option is to do a wifi search, and see if anyone has an open wifi connection (unsecured) then connect to that, BUT this is an emergency only option and is definitely not recommended UNLESS you find who owns that particular wifi network and ask their permission first. IF you do this and grab someone elses unsecured wifi be aware it is incredibly easy for anyone with the relevant software to snoop on what you are doing online, so dont be using or logging in to anything potentially personal like bank accounts and other sensitive information. If you do get a setup via wifi then make sure its encrypted with a password, but dont use WEP as there is an encryption library thing which will get you WEP passwords in almost no time at all. Im amazed at how relaxed people are about WIFI security. There are 7 open and unsecure wifi networks within a few hundred meters of where I live.

Apologies if I have now got the wrong end of the stick and this is of bugger all use to you.

I installed that on my N96. Works well but was a bit bemused to see the WiFi hot spot visible even when I turned Joikuspot off. Looks like it set up a service that keeps the WiFi on even when you're not using Joikuspot. No wonder the battery life on the phone appeared to drop.

De-installed it now that I have my Galaxy S2.

Tethering on Three isn't a problem if you are using a Mifi. This plan may be of interest. if you wish to use a smart phone and tether.

It seems, after asking T-Mobile, that they don't mind a little tethering as long as it only just checking e-mail etc. and no streaming or large downloads.

If you have a USB port (who doesn't these days) the smaller plug in dongles will work on laptops and are much cheaper. May even work on some tablets. These do not offer WiFi though.

Sadly I have just given my old Three MiFi away otherwise he could have had it for just the cost of postage. - Sorry. :blast
