No Supermarket fuel. Only Branded fuel, Shell, BP, Esseo Ect

I have used supermarket fuel, including Costco, for both diesel & petrol engines.
As part of my transport consultancy, I have visited several oil and fuel suppliers. When I've asked this very question they were all unanimous that there is no problem with using the cheaper fuels. The provision was that the cheaper fuels are without the relevant additives and magic potions that justify the extra cost.
A lot of problems occur because the station doesn't clean the tanks, and the contents get contaminated.
The exception I make is for the GSA, when I fill up with better fuel every other tankful, For classic bikes and lawnmowers, the super unleaded every time. The local lawnmower specialist has apparently seen several engines buggered with 10% ethanol.
 
There was a thread about different fuels on one of the Porsche forums. Apparently Shell V Power came top but Tesco Ultimate came a very close second.
I do try and put the premium fuels in my bikes though I'm yet to be convinced it makes a material difference........but my bum dyno sometimes convinces me they go faster :p
 
I saw that video elsewhere. Former Shell employee evangelising about a Shell Product is unsurprising. He does mention tank hygiene which is far more important. The cost of cleaning or replacing a contaminated fuel bunker is usually the undoing of a petrol station in terms of viability.
I am more likely to follow the recommendation to use a busy petrol station rather than worry about the brand of fuel used. As for my BMW R1200RS, it gets E10 95 RON as recommended in the handbook. As long as it meets BS EN228 then it will be fine.

Your GS should run on fuel from a filthy steel drum in a remote village in Uzbekistan, so stop pampering it as if it is WSBK contender.

The only bike I have owned that recommended super unleaded was my S1000XR. I tended to use the Tesco 99 Momentum, although the handbook said 95 is okay with a possible reduction in performance. Barely noticed any difference.
 
Well I had to go any buy more fuel today as my longer commute is tomorrow and the Panda 4x4 has a tiny fuel tank. I went to my usual Sainsbury (nectar points) and found a queue off the forecourt and as I made my way to the empty side I realised it was because half the unleaded pumps had out of action tags on them :banghead:

Plenty of diesel, so perhaps what the bloke was saying is true about no one want's diesels anymore?

As I'd driven to an empty pump, I noticed that the pair of super unleaded were still working so I bought that. Hopefully someone else has been buying it rather than it being sat going off in the tanks!

Agree, However, I did mention, that for me, it's a mental thing. Every other tank of DERV in my van is "BP Ultimate", To flush the ASDA fuel out. It most probably doesn't make any difference at all. But I feel better for it :aidan
My bikes never get ASDA or any supermarket fuel. Silly sausage i am :thumb
 
It all comes out of the same refinery so basically it’s all the same.

Ask yourself why does a car manufactured in the 70’s which runs on 4 Star petrol pass the emissions test and can drive into any City with a Clean Air Zone but be exempt and yet a modern car running on expensive Premium Unleaded/Diesel has to pay £7-£12 just for the privilege?

My van from new and now with 91k has only ever had Asda derv, I sold my caddy van with 125k and again only ever put Asda derv in the tank, only because it’s the most local station.

you are a dream for a marketing bod and tax collector. Jumped to the R1300 siren call and waste cash on hyped fuel. We are all very thankful for your outstanding effort in helping the country in these difficult times.

I've got an ASDA fuel station literally 300 meters from my door :ROFLMAO: But I drive six or so miles to the BP :thumb
 
Wasn't there an issue with supermarket fuel a few years back causing engine damage?

Quite interesting.
One thing I did learn, The E5 and E10 is the maximum. Depending on the cost of the Ethanol. So, it may, sometimes not have any Ethanol in it at all. :thumb
