Do you remove vario panniers overnight?

... Ah, the one bit of advice from old Tom Tom and now he's not sure.....:augie :D :beerjug:

I am certain they cover BMW branded panniers as they do BMW branded sat nav.

Not 100% sure they exclude non BMW branded panniers.

100% sure they don't cover non BMW branded sat nav.

Not as bad as you are making it out :dabone

Your non BMW panniers and all the other TT/Garmin/Wunderlich/Sargent accessories are not covered by BMW Motorrad Insurance

However your bike and the BMW alloy topbox is................result:thumb

Travel safely there, Tom

Don't fall off or park your bike unattended down a dark alleyway and you should be fine:D

You can leave your bike in most hotels in Poland in a secure carpark, they shut their car park overnight, Germany also has a fantastic secure facility for parkiig for their guests..
Obviously f you park in Wales expect your bike to be F..k.

This thread is now becoming sureal.....

Opinions??

I woke up on Thursday morning and looked out oft hotel bedroom in Dijon only to see my bike had turned through 90' during the night.

Having had my fill of croisants and cafe au lait I went and had a ganders loike....the right hand Vario had had the sh1t kicked out of it and the crash bars were scratched to feck, there's a moral there somewhere but Im fecked if I know what it is as that was yesterday and Ive just got home and sunk 2 bottles of some cheap red stuff from Carrefour in Calais.

Bon chance

Where in Dijon was that? I parked there for two nights with all three Varios fitted without a problem.

:( Sounds like its been reversed into to me, knocked flying, picked up by someone and left :eek

Not a nice thing to find :( :comfort

Man, what a thread. :eek

I thought you asked fair question, if you have never travelled before on your Bike. And I will say that the answers you got are why I love this site.:thumb

For me, if I was really worried about my panniers being nicked, than I wouldn't be leaving my Bike there in the first place. Having said that, depending on were I was, I would be inclined to take my panniers inside. You might have stuff like cameras, laptops, handguns and who knows what in them.

But what you really need to do, is to get an 1150 and post the same question in the 1150 section and see the difference in the replies.

But, on second thought, they would be the same. :D

Leave the panniers on and throw a lightweight bike cover on. 50 quid for a plain black zero bling one from Heine Gericke. Waterproof and packs up small. But more importantly out of sight out of mind.

TBH I thought it was quite funny :) and I now have a dinted pannier which makes me look like a 'proper' adventure biker now :D

Tell you what, this has been a marvellous thread to get back to ......... :beerjug:

Thats because the 1150 lot hang out in the 1200 section for some unknown reason, maybe it's because they're getting old and want to be hangin with the yoof on the site:D

Good to hear. Your dented pannier does indeed mark you out as a true adventurer. It's the ultimate sticker, if you like. Here's a tune from the Dead, who sum it all up so neatly, as a present.

Words, so we can all sing along, too:

Truckin' got my chips cashed in. Keep truckin', like the do-dah man
Together, more or less in line, just keep truckin' on.

Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street.
Chicago, New York, Detroit and it's all on the same street.
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.

Dallas, got a soft machine; Houston, too close to New Orleans;
New York, got the ways and means; but just won't let you be,

Most of the cats that you meet on the street speak of true love,
Most of the time they're sittin' and cryin' at home.
One of these days they know they gotta get goin'
Out of the door and down on the street all alone.

Truckin', like the do-dah man. Once told me "You've got to play your hand"
Sometimes the cards ain't worth a damn, if you don't lay'em down,

Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me, What a long, strange trip it's been.

What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same
Livin' on reds, vitamin C, and cocaine,
All a friend can say is "Ain't it a shame?"

Truckin', up to Buffalo. Been thinkin', you got to mellow slow
Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin' on.

Sittin' and starin' out of the hotel window.
Got a tip they're gonna kick the door in again
I'd like to get some sleep before I travel,
But if you got a warrant, I guess you're gonna come in.

Busted, down on Bourbon Street, Set up, like a bowlin' pin.
Knocked down, it get's to wearin' thin. They just won't let you be

You're sick of hangin' around and you'd like to travel;
Get tired of travelin' and you want to settle down.
I guess they can't revoke your soul for tryin',
Get out of the door and light out and look all around.

Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me, What a long, strange trip it's been.

Truckin', I'm a goin' home. Whoa whoa baby, back where I belong,
Back home, sit down and patch my bones, and get back truckin' on.

But you haven't answered the latest burning question:

Where in Dijon was that? I parked there for two nights with all three Varios fitted without a problem.

It's vital information you are withholding as we will try to compile a list of locations that are safe (as nothing has happened) over those that are not (as something has).

I myself have stayed in Dijon on several occasions when nothing has untoward - or really anything at all, if I am truly honest - has happened. I can only hope I have not stayed in the same place as you, Andres, or I will worry about going back. I have also bought petrol at a Texaco station (aren't they all, I hear you say) to the north of the city. Nothing has happened there either. I will make sure that too is added to the list.
