Yup, a big chunk of Spain's rust belt with steel in decline too. The heydays were in the Franco era with its planned centralised economy but it's now heavily dependent on EU funding, hence the fantastic roadsI have not been through there this side of Covid. The roads in Asturias were pretty good back then, certainly better surfaced than Castille y Leon at the time. I think Asturias is one of the poorer regions now, as their heavy industries are disappearing. I passed though quite a few abandoned, former coal mining villages.
