Doc does Spain with our lass

I have not been through there this side of Covid. The roads in Asturias were pretty good back then, certainly better surfaced than Castille y Leon at the time. I think Asturias is one of the poorer regions now, as their heavy industries are disappearing. I passed though quite a few abandoned, former coal mining villages.
Yup, a big chunk of Spain's rust belt with steel in decline too. The heydays were in the Franco era with its planned centralised economy but it's now heavily dependent on EU funding, hence the fantastic roads :)

But the Spanish Civil War was particularly vicious there as the left wing was very strong due to the mining.

Some of the paradors look great places to stay, must start using them. I’m assuming they’re best booked directly?

I’ll trawl through this report from the start for all the recommended ones

Yes, though I’ve also used Booking.com.

I’ve stayed in quite a few over the years .
The one in Lerma where Doc’s not staying is good but my favourite by far is Parador de Santo Estevo.Stunning mountain location and amazing building with a brilliant restaurant .

That's what all the bear statues are for after all! :)

@Arsey - lucky you didn't have a male bear with you!
