Well it's nearly time for a eighteen night special.
Not been feeling this trip for some reason but I'm sure all will be good when we set off. Decided on taking two days to get to Plymouth so setting off Friday. We are staying here for our first night.

Going to have a ride through Wales.:yikes to get there and visit here whilst at the first hotel.

And Saturday move on somewhere else before getting the ferry on Sunday.

Get off the M5 at or near Exeter and take the A380 West then the B3212 towards Moretonhampstead then Two Bridges then Princetown and Yelverton then the A386 towards Plymouth, if you get to the ferry port early there's a half decent cafe in the Yacht Club (open to the public) directly opposite Brittany Ferries entry point to the port.

Cheers I'll take a look.

Be aware: Due to numerous incidents of animals on Dartmoor being injured or killed on the roads the speed limits have been reduced, mainly down to 40mph. During the summer months with lots of visitors, these limits are monitored and policed.

Route through Wales for Saturday to get to the Old Severn Bridge at Chepstow https://maps.app.goo.gl/159fWB5KaHBqpspZ8
135 miles, 3.5 hours so plenty of time to get another 100 miles into SW England.

The route goes around the bypass of my home town, Welshpool. I'd meet you for a coffee but you are likely to be going past before I have got up!

The A483 from Newtown to Crossgates is one of the best roads in Wales, taking you over the Kerry Ridge in the Cambrian Mountains. Then you will go over some of the Brecon Beacons into Abergavenny. You will then climb up from the Usk Valley to Tor y Mynydd before dropping down into the Wye Valley at Chepstow.

Plymouth is only 2.5 hrs/130 miles so you can get a good way down the M5 before you get thirsty.

I've just looked at availability in places I have stayed at and none have rooms on Saturday, or they have a 2 night minimum.

Pier One is the cafe of choice before the boat .
Bike parking outside and nice burgers etc with a view

Cheers wessie. Changed the route a bit as we might stay at Cheltenham on the Saturday night.

highly recommend you still do the section from Newtown to Crossgates, then hook a left and go down through the Radnor Hills towards Hereford but skip around the edge of the city to cross the Severn at Haw Bridge then onto Cheltenham.

If you are in a central hotel in Cheltenham, then this is a good pub with Thai food. https://www.therailwaycheltenham.co.uk/

Just copied your route onto tomtom.
you need waypoint #3 at Crossgates as you have missed out the best bit from Newtown! Then go to #6 at Leominster which will then completely bypass Hereford which is always a good thing as it is a traffic nightmare with just one road over the Wye (apart from an ancient bridge).

nope

you have not included this section https://maps.app.goo.gl/z9uH3bisWs9Yhm9J9 from Newtown to Crossgates down the marvellous A483

the rest of my recommended route was based around including this 22 miles of twisty, undulating road with a decent surface on an A class road so no nadgery bits.

Hooray! Open your visor at #4 at Marlbrook as you will pass the Cadbury's factory where they blend cocoa with local milk to go into Dairy Milk at Bournville. Wonderful aroma if the wind is in the right direction.
