Sippers the feckin lot of them. One drink could last hours.

Re sippers.

I was drinking in a bar in Gdansk one night. The bar was heaving but there was only one bloke serving behind the bar. Amazingly, every time that I went to the bar (I was supping at English pace :augie) I got served straight away. I started people watching and sussed that, although the bar was full and everyone had a drink, I was the ONLY person regularly going up to the bar. When I bought my fifth (ish) pint the barman actually said 'See you soon'.....:D:D:D

Moving day again. Can't say we would come back.
Nice burger last night though and our lass enjoyed the shops.
And one for the scooter boys to knock one out over.20240830_165841.jpg

And our next port of call for two nights.

If cars are your thing, visit the Schlumph Collection in Mulhouse.

If nothing else, you’ll get to see a Bugatti Royale, which (the chances are) you’ll never get to ever see on the road and / or you might never see again. They are beautiful cars, designed and built (as so many Bugatti cars are) to absolute perfection.

PS The story of how the collection (it is now owned by the French State) came into being is reasonably interesting, too. In essence, the two brothers descended into a form of madness, buying vast numbers of cars, with an (understandable) passion for Bugatti. Indeed, at one point, they wrote to EVERY member of the Bugatti Owners’ Club, offering to buy EVERY car owned by EVERY member.

Millions upon millions were spent, with the brothers buying entire auction lots, simply to guarantee buying one car.

PPS One of the six surviving cars was found in a New York scrap yard, just after WW2 and bought for USD 75. Today, it is valued at multiple millions.

As a very slight aside about scrapyards. My father, in the early 1950’s found an early aeroplane / airship engine in a Coventry scrapyard. Recognising it, he persuaded his employer (Dunlop, Aviation, in Coventry) to buy it and restore it. It now sits in the Shuttleorth Collection.

Wow. Were they not well?

I’d go to have a wonder about the place.

Wow. Were they not well?

It became an obsession for them, tied in some way to their worshipping of their deceased mother. The money they spent in building the collection is mind boggling.

My father always wanted to own a Bugatti but (understandably) could never afford one. He wrote to the Bugatti Owners Club in the ‘60’s asking if he might be able to attend the Prescott hill climb event, the climb and parkland being owned by the club.

They wrote back, on very nice paper, with the famous Bugatti radiator logo (in blue, naturally) saying “No, as you don’t own one”. It was one of my father’s most treasured possessions. I have the letter now.

Today, anyone can go to the hill climb for vintage cars. It’s a good day out.

If you’re a chuffer nutter, there’s a train museum too.

We did both in a brief stay on the way back from Mandello in 21.

The 24 hour tram tickets are good value, and there’s a decent bistro opposite the prison.

Passed the Rolex factory earlier for you watch fans.
No didn't get a semi on or excited.
Warlord would have.
