Thank you guys,
I almost swapped my RSV for a GS which was advertised as an 850 with a 1150 engine.

After posting pictures of it here it turns out the bike front end is a 1150 and the rest 850. seemed to dodgy, plus the guy would not tell me the orginal mileage of the bike, just said it was a high mileage bike but now has all new front and a 7500 mile engine fitted.

I walked away and still looking plus still trying to sell my bike :(
Anyways, I had my update this morning from ebay with all the GS's added and at the top of the list the GS I was on about.

Decided to read the write up and wow, totally different story!

Nothing about high mileage, engine convertion he is saying its a mistake by dvla he thinks!

Anyways, thank you for helping not swap for this lemon.

Still looking for a cheap 1100 or 1150 to swap for my RSV if you hear of one :thumb

Cheers
Garv, you rock

Could have a R850R Late model 2004/5 engine (same as 1150 drivetrain) in a 1150 frame/bike

Could be a stolen 1150 grafted to a fire damaged (rusted ABS ring) '97 850R front frame (same part no. as a 1150GS) Hence the R850R on the V5

Just a possibility you understand, hypothetic loike

That's more than just an 1150 front end, the foot rests are 1150, as are the instruments. I don't know if you got magnesium heads on the 1100/850 either, I think that was on the 1150's.

My feeling is that it's just a 1150, if the V5 says something else, then I'd be very wary of exactly what's happened without a decent explanation.

well what ever the reason for it I so glad I walked away after the info he gave me and now what is listed on ebay.
Lucky escape. :D

Hi, its a Aprilia RSV1000R 2005 model, been RIDING sports bike now almost 10 years.
I'm planning on some touring next year and fancy a change, love the look of the GS's. Been offered a swap for mine for a DL1000 vstrom but think it looks too tourer not off road tourer like I want.

The back end looks like an 1150 - later swingarm and BMW rear caliper. Too many questions though so you do well to walk away.

from what everyone has said, it seems to be a 1150 which in what he says in the advert would be right but what he told me on a gumtree ad was the engine was fitted to a high miler and the front end came off a a crashed 1150.
such a shame as it does look ok but sadly I've been stung once and it may be all lagit but no way am I going to risk it.

You can't fit an 1150 engine to a 850/1100 gearbox. The bike in the advert has a complete 1150 engine, transmission and running gear.
You also can't fit an 1997 850/1100 rear subframe onto an 1150 gearbox and the clutches aren't swoppable.

Plus the 1997 850/1100 has a cable clutch, the 1150 has an hydraulic clutch. Plus the switch gear is completely different between the two models.

Does the upper frame bit/headstock fit from 850 to 1150? If so I would say a stolen 1150 with the headstock frame number etc from a legit 850 would be my guess

Garvey. If I may I'd like to make a suggestion. gather up all the points listed on here and submit them via "Ask seller a question" under the sub heading of "other". If he answers the questions, which I think will be publicly visible to anyone looking at that particular vehicular mismatch, then all well and good. My gut feeling though is he will delete your question and choose to not answer any questions. Got to be fair with people, but Ill bet my GS (err figure of speech only speaking metaphorically like!!) he chooses to ignore the questions
