Does anyone have any spare working coil packs to borrow to diagnose ?

I’m pretty sure one of the coil packs is knackered. It’s run like this since I got the bike so only going off previous bikes as a reference.

It’s lumpy between 1-3k rpm after that all seems good to me.

Gs tool shows live data that all looks normal to me.

So I was wondering if anyone has a working set (upper and lower) I could borrow to see which if any coil sticks are fubard?

I’m in preston Lancashire , would prefer to meet in person but I’m not against paying postage both ways.

Cheers

Sorry it’s a 2006 single cam r1200rt

The gs911 won't tell you if a coil is breaking down or duff ... It's a simple 2 minute job to test all four . Do a search.

what are the symptoms of that?

Rough running, poor idle, cutting out at low rpm

Ok tested with two upper coils only - still lumpy but ran normally over 3k rpm

Tested both lowers only - lumpy again under 3k rpm but cut out under load and backfired.

I’ve a couple of lowers arriving in the post tomorrow to see if that fettles the problem.

Can I test the coils one upper and one lower each side to find which one is the faulty lower?? Or will it do damage?

Oh jesus christ it really is simple.

Run the bike on the main coils (unplug both lowers). = does it run : does it run on both sides ?

Run the bike on just the lowers (unplug both mains) = does it run : does it run on both sides ?

Sorry I thought my question was a reasonable step following on from your advice , yes it runs on mains only on both sides

Yes it runs on lowers only on both sides - but cuts out under load and backfires.

My question was to see if I could test the lowers one at a time (using the working uppers)to identify which or both lower coils are failing .

I do appreciate your patience

You can try any combination you like just bear in mind the mains are timed correctly whereas the secondaries are timed well after TDC (sparks retarded) so there will be differences if one side is on main and one is on secondary.

Also check the idle stepper motors. If one is reluctant, that side will run cold (less air at tickover sped).

Remove and clean your TPS - do a search on here there is a thread

Thanks I’ve found several threads where someone has said to ‘clean TPS, do a search’ but no reference to the process , if you could provide any other key words to narrow the search I would be ever so grateful
