Does anyone have any experience of clothing using the " Schoeller C-Change " material ?

I know that BMW clothing and Richa both use this material and am interested in hearing how you rate it.

How does it compare to laminated Gore-Tex in it's waterproof, comfortable to wear and warmth qualities ?

It would help if any replies actually relate to the subject matter tho' !

Not quite the same but my Halvarrsons jacket has the outlast lining which is kind of c-change without the waterproofing...(that's another layer) ie it absorbes excess heat (up to a point) and "gives it back" if you cool down. I was sceptical but it works. Put the jacket on on a warm day and it feels cold(ish). You really notice this if you have t-shirt on and your arms are in contact with the material. As to getting it back when you are cold... I guess you just wouldn't notice. Always feels ok to me. Though if it's very warm I tend to remove the waterproof and outlast liners anyway as the jacket is well vented.

I've had a set of the BMW phase change leggings and long sleeved top for about 8 years and it's excellent kit.

I wouldnt have spent that much money on such kit, but I won a voucher for £300 to spend at a BMW dealership and as I had all the kit I needed at the time, some of it went on the set........having tried it out, I would buy some more though.

It's great at what it does, but only within limits....It will keep you warmer when it's cold but cooler when it's hot within about the 5 degrees c to 35c range.....much outside that envelope and you need heated kit or airtex stuff at the two outside extremes

My BMW suit still looks and feels almost brand new*.....it hasn't lost its stretchiness at all and fits snugly as it ought to.......I've worn it high up in the Atlas mountains in the snow, and down in the desert as well, and it has performed well. (I've even been wearing it under lightweight cargos during the recent snowy spell here in the UK and it's worked damn well.....just try not to get knocked down and hospitalised though, as it does look a bit kinky :D)

I have no idea about its waterproof qualities, as the stuff I have is meant to be an underlayer, but for the comfort and heat/cold moderation, I rate it very highly......I suspect that it would not work as well as an outer layer though, as it needs to be close to the body for the paraffin capsules to absorb/give back the heat.

*no idea if that's a testament to the BMW clothing quality or the Schoeller material, but it has lasted very very well

Thanks folks, it still sounds clever and definitely works at some level. Seems great as a base or mid layer.

I wonder if the waterproof/ breathable claim is for an extra product, other than the C- Change ?

Cheers, thanks for the info.

OK, so PCM seems great.

What about the waterproof/ breathable C-Change then ? Anyone got any experience or opinions ?

Hi Qjumper,

The Comfortshell jacket used C-change liner roughly 2 years before it was used in the Streetguard 3.

You could do a search on "Comfortshell" to find opinions from this forum.

John
