Does anyone have their second GS1250 yet?

Try and trade it in against another brand......
Thoughts ?
If I had ever had a bike that unreliable, I certainly wouldn’t be considering replacing it with the same bike in the hope that ‘teething troubles’ had been ironed out !
There is something about modern GS ownership that seems to bind the buyer to the brand, even when they have numerous issues with the bike.
Ok, agreed, BMW are very good at fixing things within warranty periods, but they do seem to get plenty of practice.

I have had a GS1250 TE for two years. It was an ex-demonstrator so only had a 2 year warranty which now needs renewal.

Like you I bought an ex demo 1250 and it too came with the same 2 year warranty pack, but I thought the original three year manufacturers warranty took precedence?

Unless you've already looked in to this, it might be worth checking out before making a decision?

Mine was manufactured in 2018 (reg 2019 for some reason), now covered 12k mikes - the only 'issue' was a TFT software update.

The dealership have been clear since I bought it that it was only two years. And the warranty renewal letter came directly from Motorrad as well so I’m certain that the situation is correct. Were it not for coming out of warranty, I wouldn’t be changing at all. As I alluded to above, I think I was just unlucky and got a bit of a Friday afternoon bike. Whenever mine has been in the dealership and I’ve been given the same model as a courtesy ride, they have felt noticeably smoother than mine.

I ordered my 1250 GS Rallye on launch day and picked it up the Saturday after, I got rid of it just before it was 2 old as I lost my job earlier in the year, had only done 2k miles in 2020 as both our tours were cancelled and got a good price for it.

In the almost 2 years I had it the only problem I had was with the satnav cradle not releasing the satnav when we were in Scotland. I also had some software updates due to the SOS intermittently saying there was no service. Otherwise it was the best Bmw I have owned since 2005, 9 bikes including 6 GS. I hope my next one, once things improve, is as good

It seems that the third year is a gift from the dealer and not from BMW - I suspect that's why the third year is not transferable.

No real issues with mine , but i think will change this year as the 3 yr warrantee finishes . I have thought about one extra year on extended as not done much due to the Covid so maybe BM my have a new model up and coming with the changes i would like ( hcni71/phb061 :green gri:green gri)
I will be trying the V4 and the KTM again as soon as they open , but it would take a big wow to change , which i dont think they will on the long term picture of usage ( if you see what i mean ) balanced against the usual wow factor then the reality dawns.
Found this with the last Duc i had and also the KTM.
My 990 SMR still makes me smile but only on a local spin.

Am looking at a second bike and have been thinking of the new S1000R but maybe the KTM 990 SMR would be a very good choice....

The way I would think of it is, if it is likely to be recurring problems with the parts they exchanged, then buy new. If you think they are fixed with the replacement parts, keep it a while longer. You’ve taken the biggest hit over 2 years, the bike is unlikely to depreciate much more in this coming year or the next in comparison.
Cheers
Dave

BMW Motorrad website is very clear that all bikes come with a BMW Motorrad UK three-year warranty for all new bike purchases after 1 August 2018. Nothing about dealers enhancing it.

In that case the OP has a claim against BMW - my reading of the t&c's says possibly not.
