after a recent accident on my beloved r1100s and still on the mend and awaiting insurance to sort itself out...stupid bloody blind car drivers fault (she admitted liability so thats one less worry for me)

..anyway contemplating where/what im gonna do next. i have been considering getting an r1150 rockster again, or after finally having a good thrash on a mates-a 1150gs. despire my still youthful age my various injuries are starting to hamper any kind of distance or prolonged riding on anything sporty, although my r1100s is endurable enough, im looking at biti,ng the bullet and getting summit a little more upright.

the only downfall is in comparisson to my 1100s, the 1150 boxer engines just arent quite powerful enough....now considering the engine etc on my r1100s is still intact and a bloody good one too, and assuming i get the bike back as scrap-

it looks like i could almost to a straigt engine swap into a 1150gs. the motronic is the same, the gearbox would need to be kept as the gs due to frame mountings...some ancillary work possibilities but all engine mounting the same..assuming i got a single spark gs as my s is the same the loom will be almost identical

question is, anyone had a go?

nothing in concrete yet, just ideas swanning round my head as im firmly stuck on the sofa with a laptop as my only vice.

PM muppet - he tried it and i think encountered a few problems along the way - and i can't be sure as it was a while ago now but i don't think it ended up on the road.

He wants to swop to a different type of engine, not just replace the engine :blast

damn straight!!

gs=:)
gs with 1100s engine=:D
gs with 1100s engine and high comp pistons and 1150 heads and higher lift cams etc etc...=:thumb FREAKIN SWEET!:thumb

thanks, ill try to PM him.

initially i need to know a bit about the problems i may hit before i go and goose my ££ on a gs-oops may be to late for that!! LOL

well agreed a deal on a 1150gs and should pick it up over the next two weeks, the s is in the garage waiting for the strip down to begin for the project to get underway-

sweeeet!!!

ill pop in a new thread once i start working on it so you guys and gals can follow the modifications with lots of pics too!

gearb ox mount of a 1150 is different to an 1100
Touratech had the hard part for the 11100 to stop the g/box mount breaking
on teh 1150 it is orientated 90 degrees I think

thats at least one difference I know

1100GS Sport soulds like more fun

Looked at this as a project too. I have the 1100S engine complete, waiting to go. The differences between the 2 gearboxes is the problem and can be resolved by using the whole clutch assy. from the GS (I think). So the outcome would be 1100S engine with original ECU etc, mated to GS clutch and gearbox. The 1100S engine is higher revving than the GS but produces more power so I am hoping that on the road the result will be entertaining.

PM me for more details / swap ideas

its gonna be a bit of trial and error in terms of marring up the gs/s engine, gearbox and final drives to get the preffered end result. oh well, anything worth doing is worth doing well ;)
