I have a 2000 R1150 GS - and don't know what this screw is for? Should it be in tight as its washer is currently flapping about?

Replace it with a nice shiny one ... No too long mind

throw it in the back of your garage as suggested. Even when I'm putting the possum scraper back on I only use the two side bolts
