Simple question really. There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the quest pages I've viewed and a search for 'quest' on here would take me all night to go through.

If the quest doesn't do postcode search how do you enter an address to navigate to (ie is it easy).

I'm in the market to buy one but I want to be sure before I commit.

Ta very much :)

No. Still happy with it though.

Afraid not...

That's probably the Quest's weakest point. It doesn't do postcodes, and the address search takes a bit of getting the hang of... It's not too bad, but you have to type in the country, town, street name & number, and it can be fiddly and sometimes counter-intuitive.

I'm still happy with it too, though. If I lost it tomorrow I'd have to go straight out and buy another. Just got back from a week's trip round France (in the car, sadly) and the Quest never let me down in 1500 miles. And it got me straight to the door of every hotel... couldn't fault it! :)

The Quest doesn't, but with the Mapsource CitySelect software loaded on the PC, then you can do partial postcode matches, and then download the route to the QUEST. Not really useful for everyday use, but if you plan your routes, locations in advance then it's not too bad.

Hope this helps

Cheers

It doesn't ....

But once you've 'inputted' the address, it confirms the postcode within the address for your confirmation/peace of mind...

Thanks for that guys

Although I think postcode search is useful I dont know if I would be prepared to pay the extra needed for a 2610 which seems to be the next step up.

So it looks like a quest is on the cards Just got to start saving........

You could hang about for the Quest 2, which has been released in the US, and will soon be coming to European shores.. It features things like the POILoader, which will allow you to set-up alerts/warnings as you approach certain points of interest (say for example Speed Cameras). I'm not sure if it supports searches based on post-codes, but I would imagine that this would be a feature that Garmin would be keen to include in the new Quest 2.

I sent a mail to Garmin-support to find out if they would retro-fit the POI Loader functionality ito the Quest, but unfortunately, this is the response I got:
>> I am not aware of any plans to introduce a POI loader for the Quest.
>> The POI loader is only compatible with the unit listed at the link below: http://www.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

Shame.. Wasted opportunity (although I would imagine it's a technical limitation of the current quest).

The 2610 doesn't do post code either - its biggest failing. Also no sign of this POI loader for it either. :spitfire

It does do partial postcodes - limited to the 1st 5 characters.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I've just bought a quest so now I know how to search etc. and as you've said its fairly straightforward.

Next step is figuring out how to mount it.

I've read all the posts I can find on here and it seems like if you want power its either the garmin cradle (£50) with a RAM mount (149z or za)(£20). Or the RAM cradle (£10)with a QPAC (£40) and mount (£20). Both work out the same price although the QPAC route gives you the option of adding power later. The bmw mount doesn't seem to carry much favour and I have a handlbar bag there(for the mp3 player) anyway.

Anyone know another (cheaper) powered options?

Decisions, decsions..........
