Sorry but that I found very funny :D

I just re-fitted both my wheels after a set of tyres sponsered by Mucky Duck :thumb

Did not realise the back wheels had to be torqued so high, it was over 105nm if I remember correctly. Now I did them up with the normal wheel spanner provided and then put the torque wrench on them nuts. Sure still went a far way before tight :confused:

For all four to come lose sounds a bit suspect but think with the vibrations on the GS anything is possible. Hope you find the cause :)
 
[Fat Harry White]Have you inspected your nuts closely? I'm sure you clean them regularly but I bet they're not as clean as you think. Look again and you might be able to see if they've been fiddled with recently.[/Fat Harry White]

You might be able to see if there has been a spanner or socket applied to them recently.
 
Erk!

When's all done and you've checked out what you can, I'd dig in your handbag and get a nailvarnish, then dot the sides of the nuts and the wheel so you can see at a glance in the future if they've moved.

Sounds scary.......I remember the look on Mikeo's face when he came in the pub after riding down to Eynsford and found his nuts were loose...but the reasons for that were easily established.

Was it because Steptoe was putting on a bit of weight and he was looking for a new wardrobe?
 
It is possible for this to happen if the bolts are not tightened to the correct torque after wheel removal/replacement. I know cos this happened to me also.

I had fitted a set of tires on a friends (or at least I thought he was) RT before his trip out west to Colorado in 2002.
He came over with the "wheels off the bike". I changed the tires on the wheels and he went home.

One year later, I hear through the "grape vine" that his rear end went out (bearings), due to improperly installed or mounted wheel. (Remember now,he brought only the wheels and tires over to be changed. He did his own dismounting and mounting of the wheels back onto his bike, not me.)

When he asked about how or what could have contributed to this incident,he replied "Well,Rich did my tires",and left it as that.

I lost quite a bit of business (tires) from his "half truth remark" and never knew why. Until a year later,that said persons name came up in conversation. It was explained to me that "behind my back",he told other people this 'half untrue story',leaving out the fact that he did the "removal and mounting of the wheels on the bike, not me.

"Yes,I changed the tires on the wheels,but not change the wheels on and off the bike" If only he told the truth that "he made the mistake in removing and installing the wheels on the bike.

My point also is the wheel problem occured 1500 miles from home,the wheel came loose slowly but surely from improper torque techniques. Something that will and can occur over time.
 
well lads im buying a torque wrench and for the sake of my head
im going to put it down to my fault even though it took a couple of months to come loose.
 
Loose wheeels

Happened to me a few months ago, now using loctite compound to prevent it happening again
