Does the 1300 have a plastic gearshift?

Just came across an item on FB, their new bike of just a few weeks had snapped the gear shift and they discovered it’s made of plastic.

Surely not, this is a well used item which needs to be robust in case of a small off.

Can you check yours?

Yes it does mine is still intact after 7000 miles. I think the adventure is metal and maybe the rallye gs also, but the standard gs is plastic.

We’ve had plastic brake and clutch levers for many years, nobody worried about them and I’d say my front brake is more critical than my gear lever

Trophy only has metal one if the enduro pack is selected. It is then adjustable too.

For those in the know, there's nothing wrong with the 1300 shift lever. This plastic is as strong as aluminum and works just fine. Yes they will likely break in a tip over or crash but so will alu. Don't waste time getting upset over something that isn't a problem. I've got 16,000 miles of hard shifting and It's just fine

I had a gearshift of a R1200GSA break - it was an alloy one.

Trophy only has metal one if the enduro pack is selected. It is then adjustable too.

719 is metal as well.

Yes, it’s made of plastic, a fact which has been known and publicised for several months. Mine has lasted 8000 miles so far, and the only reason I am contemplating changing it for the Enduro lever is for that little bit more adjustment as my new boots have a deeper toe box than the old pair.

Raise it up by adjusting the shaft.

They work fine. Up until they break.
