I removed the thermal liner on my cruise jacket as soon as I bought it as I find either a thin Icebreaker zip top or a BMW Phase Change is ideal under it. Even in winter I just find that combining the 2 tops is fine. Anyone want a spare thermal lining ?
I bought my Cruise jacket around March time this year. I used it nearly all summer (if you could call it that) with the vents open most of the time and a t-shirt underneath, and it was fine. I replaced all the zip pulls with short lengths of black para chord which makes them easier to open/close vents.
Even included a couple walks around town in sunny days and it was pretty damn good. Certainly better than other outdoor Goretex jackets I own. I have a couple of good mesh summer jackets which I like wearing but this year I tended just to use the Cruise Jacket all the time.
I have been on long wet runs with the Cruise jacket and I have been fine. Discovered Icebreaker Merino wool stuff http://www.icebreaker.com/site/catalog07/range.html?gender=man&range=Bodyfit during the late summer and its works great with the Jacket. When its a bit colder I use BMW Phase Change gear and when the temperatures have reached freezing I have used Icebreaker 200 and BMW Phase Change together (No Cruise Liner though or Neck Wrap). Not hot, but I find it a comfortable temperature and with my heated grips on full it seems to regulate my body temperature okay. Mind you I have done my Artic Survival Training so anything over -30 is summer like
Took out my liner as I found that it left a cold strip down the front where the zip is. I now generally wear an EDZ undersuit and an Icebreaker Tech Top. Still find it chilly! Just as well my jounrney is only 20-30 minutes.
