What a load of old bollocks.
You don't need 7 or 8 gears, you need 6 well chosen ones, even better would be 4 well chosen ones.
There's nothing more tedious than going up and down the gearbox revs dropping 500 rpm everytime. What a waste of energy

Absolutely nothing wrong with the gear ratios on the LC - the tossers that want an overdrive would then complain that the bike didn't accelerate in 6th!
The LC has got more power and more torque than any previous GS, it goes like stink, handles far better and will happily cruise 10/15mph higher than any previous GS, FFS stop whining and just bloody ride it

but it would still accelerate like stink in 6th if it had a true overdrive 
Yes, first low enough for nadgery off road bits, top high enough for those unavoidable long distances on motorway at peak efficiency and four well chosen ratios in between.
Job done, well it would be except for the fact that the bogger is specified to attract non-BMW riders. The eventual bogventure will perhaps have the box that the std. bike should have.

well said I think it is perfect as it is, what people are not used to is the quicker revving engine, stop comparing it to what is past this bike is the future it has moved on, and so should we. if you want it tamer use rain mode.
BMW have spent several years developing this next generation bike. As far as I am concerned its brilliant and BMW have got it spot on.

After reading that, I think the WC needs a reverse gear - to help out some of its riders
I guess if it was really really really well chosen you would only need one?

There was a time before emissions became a legislative obsession when 4 gears were good. The extra gears just keep the engine in it's combustion sweet spot to optimise good emission.
Interestingly the Honda Xtourer DCT box does this in auto mode.......but that is a whole new subject.
My new tin can has 8 gears despite having a stump pulling 3 litre Diesel engine , says it all really.
I think the Wasserboxer just needs 4 gears, no more, no less.......so there.
