I've removed and re-fitted my tank several times over the last few days. I've convinced myself that the throttle cable isn't routed correctly, although of course I've never really paid attention to it in the past.

Can someone compare these (low quality, mobile phone) photos to their bike, and tell me if the throttle cable looks right? I have it in my mind that it looped higher before.

Thanks!

Robin.

Mine is tucked away in the garage and a quick look at it, with the steering lock on to the left says yours look okay. Mine goes the same way but is tighter and resting on the rearof the top yoke, due to the steering lock being on HTH's :thumb
I should be in bed not poking around the garage with me fecking torch, GOODNIGHT:D:D

Robin, IIRC the cable should be in front of the handlebar, passing where I have added an arrow ? Coming over the top of the right hand clamp:

Start the bike up, turn the steering lock to lock a few times.
If the revs stay the same all the way through the range of movement, does it matter?

I haven't moved the bars, nor disconnected the throttle cable at either end, so I don't now how that could have changed. Was in the garage a while ago, maybe they did it? More replies needed...

Fair comment. What first raised my concern was that the throttle cable seemed a little stiff when I was riding it. Then backing it into the garage on full left lock, the revs rose a bit. I loosened the tank and eased the cable through a bit more and both problems seem to have gone, but in the back of my mind...

To answer your question, it might matter - if the cable is pinched somewhere, it's only a matter of time before the cable snaps.

It's good to have something to worry about...;)

Thanks for the replies - keep 'em coming.

Checking photos of my old 1200GS in Morocco from last year I must retract my earlier post : I do not recall correctly:rob ; the cable routes exactly as yours does.
