PS He forgot the words ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’. There is still time for the
latter.

My experience; not really, maybe 2-3 euros saving sometimes but then you have to register on some obscure booking site you’ve never heard of!

ooh, another tangent that should have its own thread ...

Trivago does not do anything Google maps offers, plus google lists places that only take bookings direct to their own website

booking direct is something I am doing more often. The big booking sites are charging increasingly high fees so more hotels are not listing on every site. Often there will be rates on the hotel sites that include breakfast or dinner that you will not see on the expedia type sites e.g. Logis hotels in France do a half board rate only on their site.

I have moved the post(s) so as to not detract further from the original thread.

Regarding Trivago, never used it myself, was just curious if fellow world travellers benefited from using it.

Yes Tiny Tim that's the advert on tele I noticed, and wondered. Up to 40% is a lot of saving, on a 14 night break.

what sometimes works is Topcashback, especially if booking several rooms for a group over 14 nights where companions are more price sensitive. Hence why I sometimes recommend budget hotels we have used.

You have to register then click through to Expedia etc. Sometimes there are 10% offers but you need to check you are getting the same rate not using the cashback site. A second browser helps that is not logged into any accounts.

No plans this year, as I have left getting my new passport too late to book somewhere abroad.
But perhaps following year or later on this year.
Any savings is good for the wallet, but wondered if it was just another gimmick, to make you spend to save etc.

I did not want to be that guy asking, "How?" at the hotel reception out desk.

I use the booking sites as a research tool. Always book direct. Had a bad experience once where a booking site took a booking from my friend despite the hotel being full. JJH

We were in Cornwall and decided to break our trip home to Lincolnshire with a night in The Cotswolds. Because it was last minute and summer the usual options of Booking.com, Hotels.com and Expedia were only coming up with very expensive offerings so I decided to try Trivago which came up with a very nice hotel at half the price of anything else. Unfortunately the hotel Trivago suggested was in Aberdeen. I've not looked at it since.

As noted elsewhere I only use the booking websites to get ideas then ring the hotels direct and book with them which usually results in a better room, price or both and also means I'm not subsiding or supporting the ongoing illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.

Assuming it’s a UK passport, the turnaround is now quick for a renewal. For a fee you can also speed it up further.

Uk passport, Normal speed, was expecting it to take months with a back log, but as I have no set destination, I'm in no rush, to go abroad.
Never used my last 10 year Pass.

Think I am truly a home bird, but I like to have one, just in case my mind changes.

*Off topic, I heard Cher lives or used to live in Wapping, ever see her, I still have hots for her. The older woman....huba huba.*

Think in future I will just try "POT LUCK" in finding a suitable hotel, Fook the price! :green gri
