My bike has been covered head to toe in ACF50 for a couple of months now and is now absolutely caked with road muck / grime. I have to travel 9 miles on a poor road before a main road and within 2 miles the bike would be absolutely filthy so i see little point in regular cleaning.

Over the last couple of days which has seen me do about 300 miles with several stops long and short, i have started to feel that either i have an oil leak or that the ACF50 continues to smell.

Funny thing is though that i dont remember it smelling funny even when i first put it on.

The smell i mean is not dissimilar to the smell generated by FS365 burning off the exhausts when you start a bike up.

The reasons i perhaps thought i have an oil leak were -

Parked up at my friends and he said ' oh you've an oil leak' but i reckon that was just the road water / crap dripping down off the hugger.

Then ive kept smelling the bike when i stop and switch it off.

Then saturday evening i parked the bike up, left it running while i watched 'stuff' drip down from the middle of the bike onto some newspaper but i smelt it and it doesn't smell like oil or feel like it and wasn't hot enough i didn't think.

Then yesterday, twice when i changed from 1st to 2nd gear, it took for a second or two but then jumped out of 2nd - may well be coincidence.

Then i met another friend who asked when i pulled up beside him for the first time if i had 'just changed my oil?' - i havn't.

My bike is as dirty its hard to see a leak but where should i be looking if it decided that i have a leak somewhere? And i dont really want to wash the ACF50 off.

So smelly ACF50 or oil leak?

Thanks:)

I would guess its the ACF 50, about to give my 1200 a coat in the next few hours.

Gimme a break!!;) I got it recently with nominal miles and 20k per year due to my new venture should sort that out!:D

Forgot to add that i have checked the oil level..............obviously and its still at 3/4 mark - same as when i bought the bike couple of months ago.

So you reckon the smell of ACF50 is what im smelling? Even though i cant remember smelling it when i put in on and for the first wee while?

... Shurely shome mishtake :duno

... Everyone checks their oil levels daily :rob

... But ACF-50 smells like the devils wee and it never seems to disappate :D

Give it a good clean and reapply ,theres all sorts of Shit in the road salt on the roads ,some even contains sugar! A thorough clean ,ride it on a dryish day with no acf50 on and all will be revealed!!:thumb2

Another stunning thread in the 1200 technical section

... So, as a non-1200 owning, aloof, kind of genuine dirt-riding god of a chap, exactly why is it you spend so much time here :loopy

... Your 1200 mocking is the one theme that exceeds the 'what oil' thread with monotonous frequency :dabone

... Don't you feckin' start 'n'all :eh

... :D

Ha! That told ya:P

For our trip to Mongolia and Pamir there's 2 x 1150s and 2 x 1200s, I'm in the 1200 section for general knowledge.....it answers many questions:D
