There will be loads of opinions, mostly from better qualified people than me, but for what its worth I have just equipped my GS with the stuff for a Euro trip next year and here is what I have got.
1. Autocom Super Pro-AVI Duo, this is the basis of the intercom system to which everything else will connect. You would not need the duo unless you have a pillion. Autocom have revised the range slightly and the more informed 'tossers' will be able to give you guidance on that.
2. Garmin Zumo Sat Nav, not just for Sat Nav though, it can be your MP3 player and control your BT phone connection. You will need a connection lead to the Autocom and an Autocom BT dongle for phone connection.
3. Some kind of PMR radio, Kenwood seems to be the best bet, others might have advantages (I have an Intaride 803) but the Kenwood is probably the Autocom boys favourite so you can bet that problems and installation would be easier.
4. Press to talk switch from Autocom, but get yourself a decent bracket and replacement switch and then read the thread on here titled ' PTT Mount'. IMHO the Autocom one is slightly flimsy, but loads of people will argue that it is fine.
I think that is it in a nut shell, you can now read the threads by people with more experience of these matters and who know what they are talking about

If you can try and meet up with someone who has this kind of kit so you can get a feel for it, it can be a bit of a learning curve.
