In Trying to extract the central spark plug from my 2004 twinspark I used a normal long 16mm socket, with the unfortunate result that it would neither extract the plug and got itself jammed in the head. I read Steptoes excellent write up on replacing a head gasket, and decided not to go down that route. Fortunately my mate Henry had a pair of needle nosed mole grips and managed to extract the socket without any further surgery. My bike has a complete bmw tool kit which has a suitable tube spanner. What a twat am I

Perhaps the start of a "twat mistake" thread...! We've all done them and there are even a few we'll admit to ..🙄😆

I had the same experience with swmbo's CBR600. Access was much more difficult being an incline four.

Prior to thr arrival of the molegrips I was going to tack weld this in place to withdraw the socket

If you use "paper" (eg blue workshop paper) to clean off the valve-cover and rocker-box surfaces, make sure you don't leave any torn off segments tucked up under rubber damper block below the exhaust valve when you reassemble....

(ahem)

My one recently is don't be lazy and lever out the HT cap on you Oilhead cos you don't have the cheapo puller... Cos you can snap them if they're brittle and make you buy a new one...😆

I am sure we have all done a quick job that turns into a long job.

2 months ago I was wrestling the last plug cap off my son’s KA.

One slight slip of the extractor tool and I knocked the electrical plug off an injector.

Surprising how expensive new injectors are!
