there's a box on the top left that compares your result to others....18mbps is pretty good mines about the same, a mates is 50mbps! but he's paying 50 eur a month and downloads movies like crazy. what you've got is more than enough for downloading movies and good streaming.

I'd say that was an excellent speed :thumb2

(unless you're paying for the Virgin 50mbs service, in which case it's not :blast)

It's certainly faster enough for most people's daily useage....you can download HD porn 5 times faster than you can watch it for example :thumb

Who needs more :nenau

The upload speed isn't particularly hot, but that's a lot less important to most people.

speed

well mines half speed of your result so must be good ay!!,all depends who your provider is an what you pays,also if your in a naff area,or whilst the worlds on line with your provider!!!!!!!!!!! feckin endless excuses ,as long as its working nowt to worry bowt:type:blagblah:augie:)

Thanks for that :thumb2
I'm with virgin media and subscribe to the XL broadband service as part of their VIP package 20mb I think

You, lucky, lucky boys!

I'm in a faraway place right now and my readings are:

Download = .44
Upload = .16
Ping = 141

Ok for browsing this place. Just glad i don't want to download movies.

That's still a very respectable speed though.....and still enough to watch streaming video on Beeb iPlayer etc with no problem :thumb2

Check the specs of the wifi kit you have....it will (obviously) only run at the speed of the slowest component, which causes a bottleneck- it may be that you have a bit of kit that's only able to send/recieve at 10mbs anyway.

If you feel the need for more speed, try raising the router that sends the wifi signal higher in the house to get a better all round signal....there are also lots of other ways of boosting the speed but TBH, as above, that's a very very usable speed so it may not be worthwhile.

I'd be quite happy if I achieved that speed on my wired connection coming into the flat in the first place, let alone on the wifi signal!

Can you really trust a test from a company that's trying to sell increased performance? :nenau
