My 2003 R1150GS ADV UK Warranty is due for renewal on 28th Feb 05.
BMW wrote inviting to renew early (before 13th Jan 05) as after this date a change in product offering was happening.
I renewed all inclusive for £344. Though it good value as I ride in mainland Europe and had a few big items & ABS brake parts replaced since new.
I rang BMW warranty department to seek advice on the "change in product offering". I was told: "The product becomes insurance based, same service but underwritten by an insurance company, the price for warranty cover after 13th Jan 05 for the R1150GS ADV - £675".
Have you expired yet?

That is worrying, i was happy to pay the £344 when mine runs out in Nov 05. That is a big leap and i think its a liberty take for a ayears warranty. That is the price for one year I suppose?

[the price for warranty cover after 13th Jan 05 for the R1150GS ADV - £675".
At that price it's simpler just not to worry about the warranty. If you're lucky and go two years without any problem then the money saved will cover any subsequent failure.

IMHO of course.

The bike had so much stuff replaced under the warranty in the first two years I'm not sure what the parts, labour, recovery and bike hire costs would have been for:
* Replace pitted brake disks front and back (I had to pay for the new pads myself).
* Bottom forks and top fork brace paint bubbled,
* New ABS unit under seat (waited 4 weeks for part from Germany)
* New ABS servo unit.
* Rear swing arm unit.
* So much other small stuff that I nearly sold the bike.

It can also depends on how handy you are at repairs and the time you have to get part arranged and pay for them just when you don't expect it.

If I had not taken the extended warranty I would probably leave the bike in the garage more often, worried about what goes wrong next..
As it is - I'm in Netherlands for the Easter off road weekend and going to the Norway off road in September.

Great bike, I would have renewed at £600+.

Just because a warrenty period has expired, it doesn't mean you can't get stuff that could reasonably have been expected to last longer replaced.

At 600 quid, I won't be renewing mine.

But I will be having a damn good look around the bike in 10 months time and will be pushing for everything I can possibly get sorted done.
;) ;)

If the price rise is really due to new regulations, then one would expect all similar warranties to have also doubled in price. Would be interesting to know if this is the case.
