For anyone looking to get into the world of the water cooled, much has been said recently about the new GSA, but the GS WC is a well capable steed..

I'm from the East coast, just had a little trip to midlands, then London for an overnight, Channel tunnel to Calais then overnight in Bruges City centre, (cobbled roads & all) then a little bumble for an overnight stop in Paris, mostly main roads guys cos had to get a bit of city centre nightlife in with a few beers at night..
Then a one stint trip from Paris (Montmartre) to Lincolnshire, nearly 1000 miles in total & 8hours from Paris & 416 miles last leg in uk..

Bike flawless really, nimble, straining to go, cruise control great, used vario top box & BMW rear seat soft bag, left vario panniers at home this trip as they do act as wind brakes a little & restrict my filtering, used the BMW small tank bag that's been sat unused for a few months but fits very nicely & nice retaining straps that allow fast fuel refills.. Right.. Fuel tank, not big enough, does 200 miles but I prefer slightly bigger, also when full helps keep the front wheel on the floor.. Akrapovic, fitted last week, sounds so nice, a guy on the Chunnel on a blackbird even mentioned it when we parked up..
Mpg for some of u guys, not important for everyone but average 48mpg some at autobahn speeds.. ( less with panniers)
Screen.. I'm 5ft 10' with a shark evoline flip helmet, adjuster about 2/3rds of the way extended, slight wind but keeps most of the pressure off me, side winds are hitting body & bike squirrelly but easily recoverable, & in some areas there were heavy winds..
Wind protection not as good as GSA (knee area) & at 2celcius for last 100 miles I got cold..
RIGHT, I so want a GSA WC, but I think I'll be keeping this little white GS WC a little while longer yet, I'm not finished with her..
Yo...

I saw my first WC GSA riding into work in London this week. very nice but still as wide as a house and apart from riding like an absolute tw*t (60 in a 30??), he had the same trouble filtering as you do with every GSA. I had the previous model for a month and it was the worst month of my life (but that was my fault for choosing the wrong bike for the job!). Even the the regular GS seems to be nearly as wide it is much easier to filter on.
I don't get the range thing - OP was in France and that extra 70-90 miles of fuel per tank in a 4 day stint equates to one less fill-up. IMHO not worth it for dragging the bigger bike everywhere and it'll be a nightmare in urban traffic. Out in the cuds where petrol stations are 200 miles apart and it's all open roads the GSA is perfect. Of course, if you like the look and want the bike... :)

Morning guys..
Yep..! Really like the GSA, but really enjoying the GS so much..
Emptied the tank at one point with a mega headwind & spirited driving in 100 miles, pretty surprised with that one..
Forgot to mention, mines a TE model & the headlamp is the best I've come across on a bike, with luggage (more than normal) I stopped & gave the adjuster a couple of turns downward to correct the aim, wow, pretty good.. For my weight & load the standard 2 positions available on the headlight wouldn't suffice, but it's easy to get your right hand into the headlamp area to make adjustment..

Anyway, it's riding time this weekend guys, Easter upon us, me.? I've gotta go back to work (:guitarist) but a great few days on a motorbike that just wouldn't have been the same in a cage..

The GS is all round better bet than the lardy, overweight, over-sized GSA? sharper, nimbler and better handling too.

That's the great thing about the new WC, you can empty the tank in 100 miles and still get 48MPG

I knew someone would pick up on that, the 48 was average for the trip, but the average included the thirsty bit.. Engine getting more run in, power great on road mode, looser & seems more mpg as it's getting used more..

Can live with the range but still looking to fuel up below 200 miles per tank & been past 'zero' more than once recently..

Actually, no, its no wider than a regular GS, at their widest profiles, as far as I can see: Ive tried overlaying profiles of water-cooled GS/GSA RT :

Always thought my 1200mu was a bit of revelation after the 1150gsa,then thought the 1200tc would be impossible to surpass! that was until the 1200wc came along which I've now had for 10mts and it just gets better every day.

Then the GSA WC came along and my thoughts were that although I always felt the 1150gsa was a bit of a lump I should give the 1200 adv wc a serious go.

So off I went and gave it a good go.It was big it was lardy and IMHO not a patch on the standard 1200.I don't quite get why anyone wants one unless the are a very big bloke or need to do 300+ miles in one go.

As was pointed out earlier the standard gs needs one more 5min fill up every 1000mls....looks better...goes better...handles better...and doesn't have that strange sound made by I presume the air intakes,it also does not have that hideous scaffolding.

Just my opinion.

Steve
