As the title says. 2010 twin cam, 60k miles. From what Ive read im thinking 15/40 semi of the car variety?

I’ve put 15/50 in mine.

Castrol POWER1 4T 15W-50 Semi Synthetic 4 Stroke Motorcycle Engine Oil - 4 Litres x 2

Latest recommendations are 15w50 by the overlords. I use fully synthetic, don't think it matters whether semi skimmed or full fat but I am open to ridicule and bullying 😀

15/50 fully synthetic in mine the last few years too. It rattles less when really hot. 🫣

Ok. So you're all at it. Mine is always filled with 20/50... Very happy about that in Italy, in the summer. V cold starts aren't helped much, but with my super duper 5yr old lithium battery I have no worries . It runs nice and quietly, all the time

Big problem in UK is that its not easy to find a 20W50 grade of oil in synthetic/semi synthetic for a reasonable price, most oil of that grade is the cheap mineral stuff for old classics. The only stuff I found was at a H-D dealership at a stupid price per litre, until I found Westway Lubricants (links below).

I bought a 20Litre bulk drum of "Westway Lubricants" Fully-Synthetic 15W50 to JASO MA2 spec when I had my Hexhead, I still use the stuff in my Tmax. I'm tempted to try it in my 1250 once out of warranty to stop it rattling and clattering like a bag of spanners with its piss-thin oil from BMW.

They sell a bike-specific 20W50 Fully Synthetic (also suitable for wet clutches) in 5L and 20L drums:

Hot climates sell plenty of 20W50, when I lived down under most of the petrol stations had plenty on the shelves.

This is what I'm using...

I don't think it's particularly cheap...and I probably change it more than necessary. But I plan to keep the bike for as long as...

The one I recommend is £31.99/5 Litres, see link above.

My current 1250 is still under dealer servicing/warranty, but my old Hexhead 1200 got new oil and filters very regularly. If I ever end up doing home servicing on my 1250 I will likewise change the oil and filters more often than the dealership would.

FWIW I used to visit Fuchs Lubritech in Wembley once a month to service their machinery, and seeing oils and lubricants blended its amazing how little there was in it and how few fucks were given by the workforce (I think they have now been liquidated and production returned to Germany).

one of the guys I work with, his son works for euro car parts, with his staff discount he can get castrol 15/50 4t for 30 quid. I guess that answers the question for me. I appreciate the comments and I hope it helps other going forward

Plus one for this - used it for the last 40k in my 2010 TC.
New oil every Feb - just about to order some more.

Ordered this yesterday for my TC.I usually use 15w 50. It's comes in at the same price here for the Castrol 15w 50 full fat. It will be interesting to see if it quietens the bike some more.

Same here.

These oil threads always remind me of breaking down at the Stella Alpina on my 2008 GS. I managed to hole my filter and lost all the oil. My Carlsberg mate had to go into town on a Saturday evening with a holed filter to try and get a match. He came back with correct thread and diameter, just a bit longer so couldn't refit the trashed sump guard. And 4 L of oil from a 45 gallon drum of God knows what.

Well the truth is the bike never ran smoother or better before or after that fill of mystery oil whatever it was :ROFLMAO:
