Well i am just striping my bike ,bloody hell the wires are a propper birds nest of duff bodges.
We have an old datatool alarm ,all kinds of wires taped together in random bundles,I feel like an extra from the hurt locker clipping the bloody mess back too the loom
GRRRR I will be glad when this is done
 
Sounds like my bike at the moment! :blast
Hopefully get it all wired up properly this winter
 
dodgy wiring

I bought a 34 year old Harley 4 years ago. it had been wired with household twin & earth . the reast of the wiring was black colour. and twisted together with black tape around them and somebody hadn't bothered to fit a relay for the starter. I'm surprised the starter button hadn't melted.
they say a little bit of knowledge is dangerous.
 
Datatool alarms have long been the work of the biking devil, as are most alarms when you try to de-alarm them... Your bike can often take on a life of its own... and that's when they work something like...:augie
 
yep thats my worry ,this alarm has never worked since i have had the bike ,but the wiring that goes with it is nuts,I also have spare live wires direct too the battery ,what for i dont know ,good grief

You might need to work out where the worst messy bits are and then find someone with the same bike to have a quick look, take pics, make notes... Looms are lovely things until someone messes with them...

That's exactly the problem i had, i was able to buy a new loom from bmw in the end, bloody glad i did.

hope it dont come too that ,but how much was it in the end ?
I have got rid of most of the cack I just hope that there is an end in sight

It worked out about £240 ish i think, i was buying so much at the time it all became a blur:D

On mine the guy had taken the connectors off the loom wired in the alarm then reconnected the loom around the frame under the tank!

I started to remove the alarm, realised it was all fekked , i peeled bak a bit around the headstock that had already been cut and taped, water had got in and had started to corrode so i decided to bite the bullet and get a new loom as it was available at the time.

Glad i did, Rob Farmer amongst others helped me get it all back together again and the wiring went really well, worked first time:thumb2
