Download a .gpx file from the Ride Routes onto the Tread app. However when I bring up the route it displays only as a thin dotted line with the waypoints etc but not the usual thick purple line. Tried multiple fixes and attempts to rectify it but keep getting the unable to calculate message. Anyone experienced this / know how to rectify the issue? :thumby:

Please share the link to the route you downloaded. Thank you.

One thought, is the device displaying a track, not a route? If so, what happens if you ask the device to convert it to a route?

Thanks Richard, It pulls through as a Route however it does look like a track on the map, there is no option to convert like you would normally see when its a track. I've used Ride Routes before on the same device with no issues. This issue is not unique to just this route, unfortunately I'm experiencing the same issue on other routes from Ride. I'm sure the issue is my side but can't overcome it just now!! :thumby: apologies for link format!!

Good question Richard, I’m not sure. Up until now I’ve done my business on Tread and then synchronised. Some other routes I’ve taken from online or AI generated pull through as both Routes and Tracks. Converting the tracks seems to keep them original whereas the Routes can differ due to the XT2 settings I believe. First lot of trouble I’ve had in a couple of years use!! Thanks for your help:thumby:

How to Convert a Track to a Route on a Garmin XT2

  • Touch Apps on your device.
  • Touch Tracks.
  • Select your saved track.
  • Touch the Wrench (settings) icon.
  • Select Convert to Route (or Convert to Trip).
  • Choose the direction (Start to finish or Finish to Start).
  • Save the new route, which will then appear in your device's Route planner or collections.

Thanks Richard I’ll give that a go this evening!!:thumby:

Have you tried to navigate the track that's causing the problem?

I think the dotted line is showing that you're not on the track, and how you get to it.

So the latest is I compiled the .gpx files in question into my icloud using my laptop. From there I imported them from my iphone into the Tread app as normal and low and behold they all transferred as routes with no issues!! The holy grail of a solid purple line was present. No idea what the difference was by using the laptop vs iphone for downloading the files in the first place but it worked. Thanks to all for comments and help:thumby:

GPX files can be fickle things.

I recently downloaded a GPX file from OS maps and sent it to my Garmin device.
The whole trip was at zero sea level and flat as a pancake, which is strange because in OS maps it shows every hill and you can see elevations?
I went to This GPX Cleaner which re added the hills etc and i downloaded again and it worked like a charm.

We love messing about lol

I dare say it was myself being a technophobe but maybe info may help someone out if they’re experiencing similar issues!! :thumby:

It was maybe just an oddity, whereby the iPhone downloaded the file from RiDE magazine as a track and / or the iPhone sent the file to Tread as a track. Or, possibly, you displayed the file as a track on your device?

The only way to find out is to repeat the process again, using your iPhone only, using a different download from RiDE magazine to see what happens.
