I have been cruising around in sailing boats for many years.

In sailing boats it is very common to have two (huge marine) batteries.

One is electrical parted to ensure it loads and to ensure it is only used for engine starting.

The other one is for use when ever any electrical equipment onboard is in use.
From fridge to chartplotter, anchorlight to water pumps.

Is it possible to mount an extra battery on the F800GS and connect and run it like described here?

I would have thought so I run a dual battery system in my car, but space is going to be a problem in a bike

boat / leisure batteries have different properties

one is motive power for starting engines the other is called...:blast something else and it's for powering things like little fridges TV's etc.

the dual charging unit is also going to take up space...

it's a good question but I have to ask why...? maintain your bike and battery and you should be fine

you'd ideally need a more 'deep cycle' battery for your ancilliaries (Odessey?) charged through a blocking diode....with your power for extras taken from that battery.

I use the canbus to power these exact items on my GSA, as I understand it the canbus gets it power from cans that are connected using a bus bar in a underbelly slingy thingy. FFS....... :D
