Like many I favour the double d ring over the quick release type strap as it is of a lower profile and less likely to get in way of Adam's apple etc, however my otherwise favorite helmet (schuberth c1 /c3 basic) comes with a quick release. While I have learned to live with the bulk of the quick release I've wondered whether anyone has retrofitted the double d ring system to their helmet or heard of it being done? My searches on the web don't show anyone selling replacement straps and I guess it is due to liability issues. I may go down route of getting a strap modified by a person with heavy duty sewing machine such as a cobbler or sailmaker but do let me know if any ideas out there.

I would be surprised if any company would alter a fitting on a helmet for fear of any comebacks..

Whilst I much prefer the double D helmet strap to the QD I would not attempt to alter the design.

I wear a Shoei Neotec for blood biking, which I am waiting to change for a Schuberth C3 Pro both of which come with the dreaded QD. Disappointingly I think the double D may soon be a thing of the past

It seems to depend on where you buy the helmet. The Shoei GT Air in Germany is with the ratchet strap, yet in UK it has the double D ring.

I think I'll visit a sailmaker and see what they suggest. Sailmakers are well accustomed to sewing straps and heavy sails and have to do it well as they will go out of business pretty quick if sailers discover their webbing falling apart mid ocean. I'll bring them one of my d ring helmets and see if they can replicate that.

Find someone who makes climbing tape slings :)

A timely thread.
My only complaint with my latest lid is with the strap fastening. Too bulky & it can chafe & nip my skin.

Keep us posted :)

Some hope on horizon now of getting double d ring fitted with dot approval etc. I'll say nothing more until I have something concrete to report back.

Here's where I've got to now. I did ponder the notion of getting a c3 pro strap fitted as this has ability to move the buckle a bit to the side, Schberth got back to me and said it was possible but also told me that double d ring also possible and to get in touch with my local dealer.

So this means that Schuberth are happy to retrofit a double d strap or a c3 pro strap, it means sending it back to them via dealer network and cost is apparently around £100. Turnaround time is about 4 to 6 weeks. I'm in Ireland so all this is through Ireland supplier who apparently goes through uk supplier and then on to Germany. Might be a bit quicker and cheaper for you folks in uk.
