Thought I'd share this with the great unwashed might save somebody some grief.
The bike's (1150GSAtwinspark) perfomance seemed to be going off. One symptom was going a bit flat at large throttle openings at around 5,000rpm. 1st thought was fuel starvation at high demands. Easy to check. No. Thinking it's to do with cat code plug and changing maps because it seemed to move the prob around the rev range. After redoing TPS settings and a balance all was to no avail.
I'd stuck a pair of new platinum plugs for an 1100Rt in to see if it'd make any difference but no.
This was all stabs at solving something that didn't stop the bike running, didn't seem to getting any worst and sometimes seemed to be a figment of my imagination.
So off to CWs for some new set of 4std plugs for bike to level the playing field and start some some logical troubleshooting.
While I'm hanging about mention it to Darren the service manager and he offers to run a diagnostic on the spot. Result!!
But the result is....No fault found.
But with a bit of head scratching from the blokes in the workshop and some swapping of plugs and leads lead to finding that one of the plugpacks was breaking down. Rather than failing completly it was just breaking down intermittently and was very well disguised by the auxillary plug carrying the load(which is served by conventional coil and HT lead). In fact the bike runs really well on just the bottom plugs. The CW boys were great by raiding a brand new ADV in the showroom and selling me a plugpack off it for £45+VAT. They had sold 3 of them in the last month. This sort of plugpack has been very popular in the car world for a few years and is a good idea as it eliminates HT leads running all over the place. But maybe the uncontrollable temperatures on a bike might give these HT coils, stuck on the head, a hard time. Bike is just over 2 years and 25K.
The pic shows HTplugpack in background, secondary plugs in middle and main plugs front. You can see the difference across the electrodes on the main plugs showing the weakness of spark on one. They had done about 250 miles.

My work is done here.
